How to downgrade nvidia drivers?

I also installed the drivers from the CUDA repo so this was interesting to me. I've never had this problem but then I don't run flatpaks soo....

Anyway, it seems that just a few hours ago the CUDA 545.23.08 drivers were added to Flatpak, so hopefully it'll work now? If not you can also try the command

flatpak update

to get the new driver.

Thanks, I tried this morning and it must just not have filtered through yet.... it shows a 10GB download though so it's gonna take a bit of time to see if it works. Looks like this is because of a workaround.

I would still like to know how to downgrade though of course if needed in future. I hate the assumption of "fix by upgrade" if only because it can take so long to actually be implemented.

I don't see what I'm confused about, I've known and used Nvidia cards for ~25 years, I have no pretensions but I have some experience, I have nothing against flakpak but regarding the drivers etc. no thanks!
I don't understand your driver story, for Windows games under Linux it's mainly a question of configuration and version of W.I.N.E, the best being to use playonlinux, lutris etc.
the only big problem there is at least with nvidia is the optimus, frankly the performance is not great especially with low priced laptops
Well, don't dream if you want to play the latest generation games that require extreme performance, unless they are native Linux games, forget it, you will never have the same performance as under Windows
before the Nvidias drivers were unified and under xfree I having to get better performance under Linux than under Windows hahaha
in short, as I keep repeating, I don't have no pretensions, I'm just giving my opinion as an "old" Linux user after everyone does what they want...
As for your game, try the configuration https://lutris.net/games/starfield/
And look on the lutris forum
I don't know your game but often in recent games, you can choose in the graphics options direct 12,11 etc or compatible, Legacy etc favor Legacy, and vulkan is not optimal with direct 12 uses direct 11 instead
but hey, like I said, if you really want high performance with a last gen Windows game, use Windows...
but if I can advise you, drop the flakpak drivers or really as a last resort, favor everything related to W.I.N.E, Vulkan etc.

Only saw this now, yes there is a performance penalty but this diminishes over time. For SF specifically this turned out for now to be too great.... this does not mean don't play games on Linux that rationale in itself makes no sense. It also has no bearing on the odd argument for keeping ancient video drivers when new and better performing one's are available.... nor does it mean there is no reason to upgrade or downgrade at will. The general end user needs always trump the desires of the provider.

Useless advice given that new drivers are actually required to even start the game up, this is why game ready driver versions exist. There is no workaround for required driver versions.

That's not how flatpak drivers work, you cannot use flatpak drivers for anything other than flatpaks and flatpaks cannot use system drivers. Flatpak looks at what drivers you have installed and then downloads it's own versions to mirror your hardware setup. There literally is no choice in the matter.

Ironically I have yet again a driver problem only this time kernels wont install properly and the lock screen hangs..... will just have to timeshift back a week again I guess. Have to stop just blindly trusting updates to not brick my system..... so stupid to not be able to do a simple downgrade... imagine the unhappyness if windows required you to do a total OS reinstall just to downgrade a driver?

Stupidly thought the worst that could happen is flatpaks stop working again for a week or so.... another new game involved this time.... still doesn't run anyway because apparently I don't have enough VRAM anymore for it to not crash.

I really should have learnt my lesson and started to be careful about driver updates..... did not expect anything other than flatpaks to also break.
