Can't setup HP printer

#1 Post by ionmich »

The system tells me HPLIP is installed but...

Code: Select all

 sudo apt install hplip
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
hplip is already the newest version (3.22.10+dfsg0-2).
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

$ sudo hplip
sudo: hplip: command not found

Have you installed the HP Printing package in MXPI?

Also, please share your full Quick System Info, thanks :)

Also, do check to make sure your printer is supported. Not all HP printers are supported in Linux. Here's the supported list:

Which HP printer is it?
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

When I try to print it tells me it's a generic printer not a HP M14-M17 series.

Are you using the hpcups supported driver? ( 3.22.10 )

I have found the cups printer drivers to work better for HP printers.

Edit: That printer is listed as Laserjet m14-m17 in the HP section.
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!
