Just putting this out there: do we want to entertain disabling the default short form of desktop icons so users have some sense of what they are?
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

will have a new image today, dubbed rc1, for testing.

one known issue. during the first session after the user is set up, chromium will not launch. or rather, chromium launches, but it hangs in the background. a log in and log out cleared the issue for me, but I don't know why its happening in the first place. could be a rpi patch, could be something completely unrelated. Still kept rpi's build of chromium because its hardware accelerated on the pi. firefox and debian's chromium is not.

Did that happen with both auto- and manual login?

A quick around the web on that issue always seems to end with: problem in the profile. That may be irrelevant in this case, but maybe launching it from a terminal with what someone on RPi Forum suggests would be a good way to find out:

Code: Select all

chromium-browser --clear-data
downloading now, very slowly

hmm. there shouldn't be a default profile, unless chromium stuffs part of itself somewhere other than the home folder.

OK, I tried to launch chromium in a terminal--and saw the same error message I sent you earlier about missing bluealsa, then a zillion repeats about "failure to get fd for plane" and "no export buffer to dma_buf: no such file or directory."

Much less important: pls change the desktop icon for the YT vid to a recognizable video icon such as /usr/share/icons/Papirus/24x24/mimetypes/video-mp4.svg

Should we report testing for the RC here, or will there be a new thread?
