I am new with Mx Linux, and this the first problem I'm facing. I just did an update and I totally lost my volume after a reboot. In fact when I go to System Settings and then Audio, everything is blank. There's nothing there at all , so I don't know where to start?

FYI:
I get the sound back if I login via:
advanced option with mx23.1 liberto, with linux 6.1.0-13-amd64-(systemd).
But no sound with:
mx23.1 liberto, with linux 6.1.0-13-amd64

Is there going to be any update to fix this issue soon?

The fix will update soon (few hours ? ) ... otherwise you can fix as described here

viewtopic.php?p=757427#p757427

Modify /usr/bin/pipewire-start

the first line should be:

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash

Save, reboot and it should be fixed.
( You MAY need to also make sure the default sound is set in MX Select Sound - Choose the sound card, and click apply twice.)
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.

Cheers, @CharlesV!

Not only did that solve my issue, but you saved me the trouble of expanding on your earlier reply — in which you included the link to the other topic (and reply, from @dolphin_oracle), but not the (simple) instructions mentioned.

Note to others: Do not use sudo xdg-open /usr/bin/pipewire-start. That will run the script. Use sudo nano /usr/bin/pipewire-start (or equivalent).

An update package with a fixed version will probably come shortly,
so audio will work in sysvinit also.
In case it is urgent:
You can either manually change the first line of both scripts,
where the first line of both script currently looks like this:

Code: Select all

head -1 /usr/bin/pipewire-start /usr/bin/wireplumber-start
==> /usr/bin/pipewire-start <==
!#/bin/bash

==> /usr/bin/wireplumber-start <==
!#/bin/bash
and due to the wrong first line both scripts may not start as intended.

Now, you can either wait until the fixed package comes along,

or open both files with root- editor,

or run this sed-command line to fix for both scripts the first line:

Code: Select all

sudo sed -i '1s/^!#/#!/' /usr/bin/*wire*-start
so the corrected first line of both scripts look like this:

Code: Select all

head -1 /usr/bin/pipewire-start /usr/bin/wireplumber-start
==> /usr/bin/pipewire-start <==
#!/bin/bash

==> /usr/bin/wireplumber-start <==
#!/bin/bash

Glad that resolved!

Probably not needed to reboot, b/c it's session related logout might do.
The addtional wireplumber fix mentioned above, would probably sort the default soundcard issue, I guess.
