Another Canon Printer Issue (Solved)

#1 Post by Stevie 57 »

Any way I can get my Canon printer working? I've had no joy so far, looks like there are no Linux drivers available, although I'm not 100% sure. The printer is a Canon IP2700. When plugged in to the USB port and switched on MX recognises it's there, but that's as far as it goes, won't print anything.

Please bear in mind I'm no expert, so any instructions need to be fairly simple. System info below.

Thank you

According to the Canon site that printer is no longer supported with Linux and there is no driver available:
https://en.canon-cna.com/support/consum ... 20(64-bit)
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

+1 for gunter's response.

You can find it in MX Package Installer | Enabled tab, search for gutenprint and install the printer-driver-gutenprint .
( and make sure the "Also Install Recommended packages" on the bottom right too :-) )
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!

Thank you for the replies. I see that gutenprint does only list the Pixma IP2700 as "experimental", but I'll give it a try some time over the weekend and see how things go.

Installed gutenprint and all works ok I'm pleased to say. Took a few minutes to get my head around settings but got there in the end. Printed both a photo and a document, both fine.

Thank you again.
