startup frequently hangs at black screen and blinking curser
Re: startup frequently hangs at black screen and blinking curser
I have reread you topic and it sounds like a read error and the most likely causes of that on an SSD would be chip creep or a data cable that is dying. For chip creep the solution is to remove and then reconnect the SSD. It would be a good idea to remove / reseat the ram sticks as well. As they age, data cables, which have a plastic sheath can dry out and shrink which causes improper connections.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;
In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Interesting idea. I have a couple of SSDs I swap between one with Linux Mint, and one with (ugg) Windows. Neither of them have the startup problems. So I switched the caddys and cabling with the Linux Mint SSD which would isolate the problems if it was contacts. No difference, MX still hangs and Mint starts with no problems. Maybe there is someting corrupted on the install?...
