startup frequently hangs at black screen and blinking curser

#1 Post by M270 »

Hi, love MX Linux, but am experiencing that it frequently hangs on startup at a black screen with the curser blinking. The only thing that works is multiple forced shutdowns until it finally blows through it and starts. Very frustrating.
Running MX-23.1 32bit, Xfce. Panasonic CF-19, part time stand alone, part time with external monitor.
system info in attached file.
Thanks!

If it is just the QSI, can you please use copy for forum and paste the output in the post, saves people from downloading things :)

Does the behavior repeat if you boot with the default SysV init?
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

@M270
When you use the QSI utility and click on Copy for Forum at the bottom of the report, the output is automatically configured for use here in the forum. Alternatively, if you just copy / paste the output manually (as you did above), we request that you encase it in code tags. This makes that output easier to read and navigate. I did it for you this time so you can see how it's done.

At the Grub screen, click on Advanced Options and then choose a standard kernel as the boot choice for that session. If it solves the problem, you can make the switch permanent with the Boot Options utility in MX Tools.

You forgot the code tags (above) again. This is the last time that I will do it for you.

Chose first boot option:
"MX23.1 Libretto, with Linux6.1.0-13-686-pae"
hung on first attempt, started on second attempt. Still unstable start...
