Updates Broke Ghostery Security Browser [Solved]
Re: Updates Broke Ghostery Security Browser
So, I have to conclude that the sqlite database in /opt/Ghostery has a problem.
Next step would be to completely delete that /opt/Ghostery folder. (make sure it is gone!) , then I would clear app cache ( mx cleanup) and then reinstall Ghostery as per those instructions you linked too.
I think the reason Ghostery is firing up under Thunderbird is because it also uses that same named sqlite library file. (but a different format) and is causing that issue your seeing.

OK, cool, thanks! Will do then will report back.
Re: Updates Broke Ghostery Security Browser
I'm using qutebrowser at the moment.
Does the error several lines down flag the problem?
Note 1: It doesn't error if I remove "~/" but I don't get a launch icon on the Desktop - nor is "ghostery-browser.desktop" in /home/dmc2023/ or in /home/dmc2023/Desktop/
Note 2: In the install steps it says to do but that fails instead. Could that be a problem?
BTW: Ghostery does show up in the MX Linux Menu window when I type "gho" - I didn't try it in case it might mess something up that you want me to look at, first.

Note: When Ghostery opens from Thunderbird it uses my default folder (settings, tabs, etc) - but launched from the Menu it appears to be using a new one.

Re: Updates Broke Ghostery Security Browser
K. so those instructions install to the /opt/ folder, but the desktop launcher is moved to that /usr/share/applications/ folder.
K.. at least its now running:-) So, now need to figure out what settings folder is being used on both of those and then how to change one to the right one.(And personally, I would use the new install one!)

Re: Updates Broke Ghostery Security Browser
I'm in the middle of several projects and have tabs open in the old default files that are needed. It also contains a bunch of sites-visited history that I find valuable from time to time.CharlesV wrote: Thu Oct 26, 2023 1:26 pm K. so those instructions install to the /opt/ folder, but the desktop launcher is moved to that /usr/share/applications/ folder.

Re: Updates Broke Ghostery Security Browser
K.. so when your ready, I would suggest in both the Menu started Ghostery as well as the Thunderbird started Ghostery, going to Help | More Troubleshooting then scroll down to about:profiles
and find out where both profiles are located.
Close - and then back up both profiles to some other area.
Then, you can make the decision about which you want run, or attempt to point one to the other. (remember, these are basically FireFox data, so the same method of moving profiles works.)
If that thunderbird version is acting weird, then personally I would attempt to use the Ghostery version - and I would back up all the bookmarks and if you use them - then logins, and I would import that data to the other version(the working one) and then use that.

Re: Updates Broke Ghostery Security Browser
Note: I just observed that profiles.ini in /home/dmc2023/.ghostery browser/ is dated yesterday.
I'll hunt down where the new install put its profiles.ini
Thanks!

Re: Updates Broke Ghostery Security Browser
The first one is about 977mb - it contains what I want to save.
I'll have to learn/remember how to import from it. (I saved a copy of it yesterday.)
