/usr/share/applications is the proper directory for application desktop files that should be available for all users, including any applications that are installed into /opt.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

It's there.

Question: What mechanism would allow Thunderbird to open Ghostery from a link in an email - but I can't open it from Desktop?

I believe there are three possibilities:
mime setting
default applications setting
and alternatives setting

You can check this from the menu with Default Applications (I believe that changes both mime and default for mail and web browsers)

and then for alternatives, you can check all of them (there probably be more than one for web browsing ) , from a terminal using:

Code: Select all

update-alternatives --get-selections

*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.

Now I'm suddenly seeing this on the Amazon site - it's never happened before.

Is there a hint of what's broken from that?

In looking at the VM I setup for this, I am seeing three places where libmozsqlite3.so is showing up.
/opt/Ghostery
/opt/firefox
/usr/lib/thunderbird

When you reinstalled Ghostery, did you remove the /opt/Ghostery folder?

One more test please... in Thunar, navigate to /opt/Ghostery and then try to launch Ghostery there by clicking on the Ghostery file.

No.

I had tried that prior to, and after, reinstalling Ghostery - no joy then, or now.
