Losslesscut Flatpak Doesn't Open

#1 Post by Redacted »

I've just installed 23.1 on a new laptop, and installed losslesscut via MXPI flatpaks.
When I click on the menu entry, nothing happens.
Any ideas?

I don't use flatpak, i use the appimage ...
https://github.com/mifi/lossless-cut/re ... ag/v3.58.0

No problems so far on my MX23.1

IF the appimage runs on your system THEN something with the flatpak must be wrong?

Plz post the output of terminal run ...

Code: Select all

flatpak run no.mifi.losslesscut
kind regards

Code: Select all

bwrap: No permissions to create new namespace, likely because the kernel does not allow non-privileged user namespaces. See <https://deb.li/bubblewrap> or <file:///usr/share/doc/bubblewrap/README.Debian.gz>.
error: ldconfig failed, exit status 256
I'll try the appimage, but I've forgotten how to start an appimage!

@l0dr3

Thanks to the above output, I found in MX Tweak that I had disabled "enable kernel sandbox".
I don't know why I did it since I have no idea what a kernel sandbox is. My age is getting to me!
Anyway, the flatpak now works.
Thank you again for responding and getting me on the right track.

Glad to be of help ...
... and thank you to investigate further, why the flatpak wouldn't run!

I wasn't aware of that tweak option, maybe bc i customarily compile my own custom kernels with some special (mainly debugging flags) set. Have to check, wheter those kernels have sandboxing activated and MX-Tweak shows that flag. Here in a VM with latest liquorix kernel, the option is shown - and obviously enabled by default.

The MX-Help has ...
Enable of kernel sandbox is only available on kernels that have a switch for user namespaces built in. Some kernels default to off, some default to on. Enabling this feature is useful for a lot of applications that require sandboxes.
So IMO all flatpaks should be affected
I'll also have to chek this with appimages running in firejail, bc thats my standard approach, when using OOB stuff, thats not in the repos.

kind regards

I don't know if it helps, but I run the Appimage like this:-
LosslessCut-linux.AppImage --no-sandbox
and it runs fine.
