I've tried formatting the device using Gparted and it gives the same problem... I'll get some new device and try again and I'll be back if the problem persists, thank you.

Delete and 're-Create (the) Partition Table' (under Device menu item) in GParted and then reformat it.

I've borrowed a usb stick from a friend and tried it again and all went fine, so it was definitely my crappy sd card's fault...
