Unable to suspend Mx 23 Thinkpad T16

#1 Post by rgif »

I installed a new version of MX 23 and I love it however, when I close my laptop lid, or click it specifically my laptop suspends for a second and then turns back on. this also happens when I run `

Code: Select all

pm-suspend
` and when I boot with systemd and run `

Code: Select all

systemctl suspend
` the same issue happens.

The laptop suspends as expected when I'm booting from the live USB however once it's installed, in both KDE and XFCE the laptop won't suspend successful.

Something's keeping it awake, maybe "wake on lan" or so in Bios.. Yes, "then why does it suspend on live session?" :)

No idea. I also only have the suspend issue with MX. I've tried Pika OS ( Ubuntu base), Pop OS, and OpenSUSE and they all suspend as expected.

Try installing the Liquorix 6.4 kernel through MXPI. CharlesV put me onto it when the 6.1.0-12 security updated kernel turned to custard on my machine.
It made a world of difference to my T560. Just keep in mind this is not a LTS kernel like the Debian one provided with the ISO.

Also by Charles, check here to see what they're providing that's different to Debian.

Sadly switching kernels didn't help.

Installing a new kernel doesn't select by default for use on boot.

The selection has to be done at either the Boot screen or in MX Boot Options.

Yes but no:

Of course installing a "new kernel" may not always mean "more recent", say you can install 4.19 or 5.10 as the "new" kernel, that's true for such cases.

But if the new installed one is the highest numbered one among all (on that system) (say you install the 6.5 (no matter how, from here or there) ) it'll become the default one by itself, unless (till) you change it to something else manually (either with MXBO or playing with the related files).

In the meantime does it change when it's on battery/Plugged in ?

It may be due to tlp.

So I've updated to kernel 6.4 and Charlie Brown is correct! It suspends when it's plugged in! But does not on battery power.

Also if it does suspend ( when plugged in) when it starts again KDE does not work correctly. This is on X11.

I tried switching to Wayland and it seems to be suspending and ... unsuspending... correctly on battery and AC. So it may be fixed but if anyone has suggestions on what to look at to make sure it's working correctly id still love the suggestions.
