mx23 issue closing lid

#1 Post by babbitkop »

Hi there. My system becomes unstable when closing the lid of my notebook and opening again. In power manager, System tab on battery and plugged in I've set system sleep mode to suspend, when inactive for set to "never". Laptop lid set to "switch off display". No option to "do nothing" is available. On Display tab, I've set everything to "never" (on battery and plugged in tab). When i close and open lid, screen wakes up, but system is sluggish and my Wi-fi network drops - no wi-fi networks are visible - "device not ready". The same happens when I Suspend manually before closing lid. I've removed and purged xfce4 screensaver. Also turned off V-Blank, Disabled tpm in bios. I have to restart for things to go back to normal. Not sure if it would help to install latest xfce power manager .Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In fact, that was the workaround for me and most people.

Just, try to suspend with:

Code: Select all

sudo pm-suspend
in a terminal, then close the lid.. after a while open it and try .. (the screen won't be locked with this one no matter there's a locker enabled or not)

Also, no matter it works better or not, you can try the 6.4 kernel from "MX Package Installer" with 2 clicks, that works better here and solved 1-2 other issues regarding suspend & screen lock ...

Nothing to lose, cause your current (6.1) kernel will be under "Advanced Options" on Grub, to boot with, in case you'd like to revert back for whatever reason...

Thanks so very much @Charlie Brown ! "sudo pm-suspend" in terminal worked perfectly. Even after shutting down and starting a new session, closing/opening lid, everything works like a charm. You're a legend! I will be sure to give your advice on this issue to others experiencing the same. Greetings from Cape Town.

For good measure, I've also installed the 6.4 kernel, as per your advice. All is back to normal/perfect. Many many thanks!!

So glad to hear that. Thank you, too for the feedback :)

Again, if you like to lock the screen, too, we can go on, at least have a look at this thread:

viewtopic.php?p=669514#p669514

No matter you use a locker or not, (as you might already know) you can create a hotkey(s) with that command (from "Keyboard" - "App. Shortcuts" tab) and use that to manually suspend, in my case, I just press F3 and go :)

Forgot to say: You can also remove the 6.1 kernel when booted with the new default 6.4, simply with 2 clicks with "MX Cleanup", you'll see the "Kernel Removal Tool" below the window.. This is not a must but that one will go on auto-updating (dot releases) and take most of the time and bandwidth just for nothing when you don't use.. On the other hand the 6.4 will not auto upgrade, but you can install newer ones (say 6.5) same way when they appear (again: if you like only)...

Thank you so much for taking the time to help @Charlie Brown . It means the world to me. I've removed the 6.1 kernel as per your instructions (which are super clear). Wishing you a fabulous day!
