Miracast on MX

Here you can post about what you did to get MX to work right with your computer or if hardware worked right out of the box for you. This is for the computers and/or hardware that is normally hard to get working right in Linux or MX.

Miracast on MX

#1 Post by fan_of_LTS »

This is overdue, I should have commented when MX23 came out.

I had tried the flatpak for Gnome NetworkDisplays with my laptop builtin WiFi (Realtek 8822be) and couldn't get it to work. Searches on the Internet found lots of users with the same error messages and it seemed hopeless. I tried the builtin WiFi adapter because screencasting worked great in Windows but I wanted the space for Linux. I also tried two other USB adapters with no joy. All 3 adapters showed support for P2P-client, P2P-GO, and P2P-device as expected and needed. Support was improved in kernel 6.4 and the same flatpak version worked without error on MX23. I now can screencast to the TV.

I upgraded my kernel on MX21 to 6.4 and screencasting works there too.

My laptop normally uses 8 to 12 watts depending on screen brightness and keyboard light and it jumps to 30W when screencasting. I can get it down to around 20 to 23W by using tlp. Not being a gamer I don't know much about HDMI and compositing but I did hear that some changes in the 6.5 kernel might be useful for AMD Radeon graphics and things are getting better all the time for MX users. When I bought this laptop a few years ago screencasting and auto screen rotation did not work. Kernel updates fixed that.

The new MX Service Manager is exactly what my brother needed since he isn't as fond of the CLI as I am. The snapshot and live USB tools are awesome. The support I have seen in the forum is amazing and even when I don't understand everything it makes interesting reading and earns the admiration and respect of the community. No wonder MX is so highly rated!

By the way, the Netgear AXE3000 model 8000 seems to work best for screencasting in my trials.

This is cool info thank you!

One thing I have been trying to get rid of is my chromecast, but keep the ability to toss my screen to my TV. And although I was successful at getting it all to work in Brave, I would still rather use FF. I tried Miracast a while back and it didnt work, but now I am on a 6.4 kernel - so I shall try again :-)
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!
