Links to instant free music.?

#1 Post by Jakob77 »

Do you have some links to instant free music or radio you want to share.?

I can't find any so I guess I look in the wrong places or miss a trick.
Even in Youtube I have to press a button before it starts.

I suggest that you search for "music in public domain" ( sans quotes).
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

For internet radio, I find QMPlay2 very helpful. I use the search function to look for key words, eg jazz, progressive rock, etc, and check out the radio link results that appear.
Desktop: Intel i5-4460, 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics
Clevo N130WU-based Ultrabook: Intel i7-8550U (Kaby Lake R), 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics (UEFI)
ASUS X42D laptop: AMD Phenom II, 6GB RAM, Mobility Radeon HD 5400

It can sometimes help to allow Firefox to Autoplay.
At least that was the trick to make my first radio link play instantly:

Can anyone make Youtube play music instantly maybe by using an option along with the URL.?

I can't but with Clipgrab I can download some videos I like and put them in a local folder.

In that folder I can use Thunar to open a Terminal there.

And it looks like this Terminal command works:

Code: Select all

vlc *.* --random
With full path included the command should also be able to work from a script or a launcher.

I claim it saves a lot of on-line time and energy, and the player is better.

What do you say, do you also want a Terminal code option that at the same time can set the vlc players volume to a specific level you choose.?
That is funny, so do I but you have to ask the others because I don't know vlc that well yet.

If you have a folder:

Code: Select all

~/Music/
and you put your music files there

then this Terminal command can play them all in random order:

Code: Select all

vlc ~/Music/*.* --random

I can not make the command work directly in a Launcher from desktop or panel and that can make me feel a little piculiar.

And sometimes having a little fun can lead to a serious good discovery.

If I want a Youtube video to start instantly by URL it looks like I can just pick the link they offer to share:

Code: Select all

About the Launcher... I have made a script to be used instead of the command directly, and that works.
If someone wants that like I do, it is also a possibility, and we can perhaps discuss the script.

Hope you and your MX also have a good time Stumblin' in. ;)

Tapin Radio (Rarma Radio) on windows has a literal ton of radio stations broadcast live built-in. I used to use tapin in windows to peruse what's free online worldwide and then simply give the specific url to vlc or, on droid I use Transistor. My favorite I used to use when I allowed a data connection in my car is Metalománie: http://mp3stream4.abradio.cz:8000/metalomanie128.mp3. Great station if you like rock. I'd mention others but some are now geo-ip blocked for the last 4 years or rarely as good as Metalománie is on a regular basis.
Basically find the websites of radio staions and pull the url of the stream if possible (some are locked by javascript nonsense forcing you to use the browser itself) to give to whatever client you prefer. Oink.me was shut down and had more music for free than apple offered for money. As for streaming platforms I would rather stream my own collection than someone else's. Nothing beats 'live' radio. Free and requires no login or other bs.
Sys76 LemurPro-mx-23.4, EliteMinis HM90-mx-21.3, Deskmini UM350-phoenixLite win10, Qnap 12tb nas, Protectli FW4C-opnsense(=゜ω゜)

zero privacy = zero security . All MX'd Up
UAP = up above people

Yes, in firefox, autoplay set to on, I have Adblock plus and DuckDuckGo essentials addon's , and it auto plays for hours,

Normally I have autoplay off, and a few sites explicitly blocked as well, but just turning it on works fine for me.
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!

Thanks for all the contributions.

Yes it can make a smaller difference if autoplay is turned off. ;-)
As I recall it you had some 2. thoughts about ClipGrab for downloading videos.
Did I sense that right and if so what was it.?
Anyway I have seen some downloaded videos that had permission to run like programs and I don't like that, so I thought I better warn about it and ask for advice about how to handle it.?

For links to instant music I think it is really great to be able to have a little some to use off line.
I send my thanks to Youtube and all the developers that has made it possible.

I guess I am a little slow and that is why it is new to me that it is possible to download videos as files.
Firefox also has the add-on 'Video DownloadHelper' that might be able to do even more.

Do we have a 'real' video recorder that can copy anything we bring on the screen with Firefox.?
In case someone knows something about that, I will be happy to read about it.

Do know that video download helper calls home. I believe it was that one, been a while. When I looked into my router's logs, I saw there was something getting blocked every 15 minutes. When I googled on the accompanying text, I tracked it down to the extension in the end. Disabling it got rid of the 15-minute blocking report, so it went out the door here.
