Hello everybody,

for whatever reason, I have completely reinstalled my Linux MX. The hard disk was also completely rebuilt, one / partition and one home, along with EFI and a swap.
All updates installed and started to install my usual programs.
Everything works, nvidia driver is the proprietary455.45.01.
Steam installed, update and error message!

You are missing the following 32-bit libraries, and Steam may not run:
libGL.so.1
Now I don't know why and where to get it? I also don't understand why this happened all of a sudden? I had reinstalled MX a few times before, I never had a problem with Steam!
I got it from the package management.

Would be grateful for any advice.

Many greetings

steam uses a slightly different set of glx libraries than what the nvidia packages install. its usually easier to install steam first, then install the nvidia packages. then steams depends will get pulled in too.

you can try reinstalling the nvidia packages. or if that doesn't quite work you can take the nvidia packages off with

Code: Select all

sudo ddm-mx -p nvidia
which will get you back to open source drivers. then reinstall steam

Code: Select all

sudo apt purge steam
sudo apt install steam:i386
then run the nvidia installer again.

hassle I know...

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

Thanks a lot for your help. It worked, with the 2nd method. Steam starts up and I can now set it up again.

Hello Everyone,

I am getting a basic problem installing Steam and am also wondering if it is a driver based error. My installation will not get past verifying download despite uninstalling and reinstalling several times. Any quick fix?
