Network setup MX23

#1 Post by yann »

Hello,

in MX21 just sharing a folder would make it available on the network.

Now that I installed MX23 on two different machines, there's no way o access such a folder and there are problems in the process. I get a "net usershare returned error 255".
I don't know of I have to open another thread for that but it also seems to me that keyboard input responsiveness isn't there anymore, as if some inputs weren't taken into account.

Thanks in advance for your kind help.

On 23 ufw is on by default. Maybe you disable and try.

Thanks for your answer. Sorry but I don't understand what you're telling me. Could you explain more in detail please ? What I do is that I right click on a folder >properties >share >share this folder > apply and I get the error.

In MX23 there is a firewall that is installed by default and is turned on. You should turn this off or setup ports for sharing. (Type in ufw ) in the MX Menu to open the Firewall )

The issue your seeing has been reported as a bug in thunar-shares-plugin
viewtopic.php?p=734639#p734639

You can work around this by using the MX Samba Config utility and create and admin your shares there.
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!

Thank you very much. So I put firewall status on 0 in ufw. In Samba I added a share with the path of a folder / guest ok yes / full access to everyone. And when I click on network, the folder appears but clicking on it doesn't let me access it.

The user ID to access the share has to exist on the machine hosting the share...

AND

that user ID must have a SMB password as well. This is accomplished on the second tab (Users) of the MX Tool "MX SAmba Config".

Thank you very much, it worked. I hope it soon comes back to normal as what I love in MX is that it's easier than any other system without putting restrictions on the user.
