What is the right approach for having different DPI scaling on internal and external screen?

#1 Post by WarhawkCZ »

Hello guys,
I am happy to see another version of MX linux out. I use MX mainly on older laptops. Now, with the newest release, I am thinking about using it with my Framework 13 laptop. I booted the USB stick, runs fine from USB. However, I struggle with the LCD. Laptop itself has nice screen with 2256 x 1504 resolution. My external monitor is ultra wide 21:9 with 3440x1440 pixels. I obviously need different scaling for the internal and for the external monitor. (in windows I have 150 and 100 %).

What is the best strategy to achieve this with MX linux? I googled and found that there are different knobs to tweak. Would you also recommend KDE spin instead of XFCE?

I would appreciate any guidance.
Regards,
-Jiri
I use Google before asking dumb questions but I am new to Linux. Thank you for your patience :-)

Others have way more knowledge than me and I don’t' use KDE, but maybe some info from this entire post.

I have heard that some think KDE is better with Hi resolutions or whatever it's called, but I don't know if KDE is better with a resolution as high as yours.
How tall is it? - - AK-47. :p

Wait for better and specific advice.

Interestingly, I have just setup a machine for someone that was complaining about the "too small" screen and that she was having trouble reading fonts. I changed the Window and Appearance fonts all to DejaVu Sans Book and DejaVu Sans Mono Book and kicked up the size from 11 to 12.5 (and 14 on the window titles ) and she was SUPER happy with it - not 'scaling' involved.

This also seems to have kept the entire scaling issue under control too! you might try that and see if that is enough .
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!
