Just installed version RC3.
Error message on install routine: Waiting for /dev to be fully populated... persists as described in my post:
viewtopic.php?p=734784#p734784

Installation files from the i386 version:
minstall.txt
mxpi.pdf
mxpi log old.pdf
i would prefer the minstall log file from a 64 bit session, or does the live-usb not boot?

Thank you for your inquiry @dolphin_oracle .
I am sorry that I cannot send a minstall.log file from a 64bit version.
The setup does start and I can read the beginning of the log with ALT+F1 up to the point: Waiting for /dev to be fully populated... and then is black monitor and it aborts.

During setup I left all default settings except for language selection F2 and region F3.
Question: Would another default setting be possible and helpful ?
How can I help you solve the problem otherwise?
My guess is that the 64bit MX software reads / writes incorrectly with my system bios ?

Maybe it would help if I send them a minstall.log from the 64bit version MX19:
minstall.log

usually its a video card problem. you might try one of the failsafe boot options.

What is the reason for replacing fbxkb with gxkb? fbxkb can switch languages by clicking the mouse, and in gxkb, a list comes out, which is not very convenient.
And in general, why do we need extra language switches when the native satisfies all the needs.

It should only be shown in the systray if user decides to keep more than one keyboard layout enabled.
The default shortcut for keyboard layout switch is provided by [RightCtrl]+[RightShift].

fbxkb barfs when a keyboard layout doesn't have a flag. simply providing the flag to not alleviate the situation, so we switched tool. gxkb has the benefit that we can add flags if necessary.

user's are free to use the native Xfce panel plugin as well, but this is not automatically hideable when only one keyboard is present. It works fine though.

Thanks @dolphin_oracle for your note for the boot options. Sometimes you are a bright light in the layman's darkness with your tips.
I have set failsafe selection for the installation routine with F6 key and arrow key. (I will still try the other F6 options and report back):
viewtopic.php?p=734958#p734958
To my surprise, the live version loaded without errors.
For the error message

Code: Select all

Waiting for /dev to be fully populated
, the F6-failsafe setting seems to be a good solution.

Your heart's desire for a 64bit .log file I can now fulfill here:
mxpi.log
minstall.pdf

Wow, just wow, such wisdom from that woman...
My mom shared her experience after wiping Windows 10 completely. This is what she said:

"You get the feeling that you're part of something intelligent and all-embracing. And that your not just a would be consumer of all kinds of rubbish at the whim of Microsoft. You feel a sense of belonging and that its not out to use you, and manipulate you for its own ends. You feel a sense of gratitude and that you're in a safe space, in the hands of people you can rely on and depend on."

Just want to say thanks for MX-23. My 78 year old mother installed it on a Lenovo Carbon X1 Gen 6 with myself guiding the installation over the phone with the help of the MX User Manual. I've no significant issues to report (she had MX-18 on a T420s for the past 5 years. For my part, I'm a Debian user for >20 years).

Consequently, I'm about to flash MX-23 onto an old 4gb machine for my girlfriend who has no prior experience with computers. Much obliged to the MX Linux and Debian focus groups ;)
ah, that's great, and how community-based distros should be...
