We need your computer’s complete profile before we can proceed, so you need to post the output from the QSI utility. The Quick System Info (QSI) utility is located in MX Tools and its output is automatically formatted for use here in the forum. Run the QSI utility, click “Copy for Forum” at the bottom and then just paste it here in your thread.

After the last update of MX System Tools d.d. July 21, it gives here an error when using MX System Sounds setting: "This app is Xfce only".
When putting back my MX Linux backup of July 20, 2023, the error is gone! After the system updates again: The same error is back.
thanks will look into it.
just sent an update, thanks.
That was fast :) It works like a charm again, thank you!

By installing it afterwards in the MX-PI of >python3-uno< the problem can be solved.
Therefore my suggestion: Pre-install this package at delivery !

Thanks, will be added (probably) through an update of the MXPI->Populare Apps -> LO-Installer

++EDIT++
Will adjust the LO-installer part in MXPI.
Actually, we may consider to add the package python3-uno also to buildiso - and not only to MXPI->PopApps->LO,
which would avoid that the error shows up also:
LO-error-adding-python-based-extension.jpg
when using just the English default installation and trying to add a python based LO-extension.
@dolphin_oracle
+++EDIT2+++: Send a PR to mx-packageinstaller-pkglist/bookworm (and also bullseye[master])

MX23-RC2 - amd64 (xfce) as well as MX23-RC2 - ahs-amd64
Error message: Waiting for /dev to be fully populated....

I have created two bootsticks with mx-live-USB-maker (23.7).
As dolphin-oracle recommends, I first provided the booted demo version with the latest updates and then started the installation wizard and followed the installation process with ALT+F1. Unfortunately the process stops every time with the error message at: Waiting for /dev to be fully populated.
Black desktop with cursor flashing - no further progress.
Then only the radical method shutdown by pressing the power button for 5 sec helps.

The MX23-RC2 -i386 - versions can be installed WITHOUT problems with success !
2023-07-20_MX23RC2-32_1.jpg
I therefore suspect that the 64-bit MX software starts a wrong query to my PC and gets either no answer - or a wrong answer ?

Up to MX-19 (and predecessor versions up to MX16) the 64-bit version (of course also the i386 versions) can be installed ERROR-FREE.
2023-07-23_14-52_G-Parted.png
Same installation error message: Waiting for /dev.... also exists for MX21-64bit (the i386 version is installable without problems) !
2023-07-18_MX21.1-32_1.jpg
As a further test I tried to install the 64-bit Debian GNU-kFree-BSD. To my first surprise the pre-installation went without problems. But only up to the point where the Debian packages should be downloaded afterwards. I assume that these servers have been switched off in the meantime - The installation therefore ended incomplete.

I think it is not a problem cause with my installation media, because I had the same error messages already with previous versions of MX.Live-USB as well as with burned DVD's also last year with MX21.

On my PC I installed the latest version 1.35 Bios update.

I have just performed an installation test on another PC with an older bios previous version 1.24. The installation prompt occurred without error message and I was able to install MX23-RC2-64bit. After the query:Waiting for /dev to be fully populated the installation routine continued after about 2-3 sec. with: INIT: Version 3.06 installing.

Conclusion: I conclude that your MX software has not been adapted to the latest HP-Intel-BIOS version 1.35 yet. This must be made up for.

A similar current bios version 1.32 is also available for the further HP PC series DC7900.
I will hardly be the only PC owner with such hardware. For sure there are still several of them. After all, HP is a well-known brand manufacturer.

I hope my hints will help you to correct this error.

Re: MX-23 RC2 (Xfce) feedback thread

#128 Post by vitforlinux »

I attempted to upgrade freshly installed MX 21.3 minimal to MX 23 RC 2 via apt dist-upgrade and succeeded, apart from the Grub/os-prober issue in Debian 12, which I fixed anyway.

The thing that displeases me the most is that the boot writes Debian 12 instead of MX 23 Libretto.

However, we should try with a more used system, I think Chrome and Nvidia drivers would give it some problems.

Below what I wrote in the terminal

Code: Select all

sudo sed -i 's/bullseye/bookworm/g' /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.list
sudo sed -i 's/non-free/non-free non-free-firmware/g' /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list
wget https://mxrepo.com/mx/repo/pool/main/m/mx23-archive-keyring/mx23-archive-keyring_2023.6.6_all.deb && sudo apt install ./mx23-archive-keyring_2023.6.6_all.deb
sudo apt update
sudo apt dist-upgrade

echo "GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=false" | sudo tee /etc/default/grub.d/os-prober-enable.cfg && sudo update-grub

After that it was necessary to fix the grub and plymouth theme with Boot Options.
Excuse my spaghetti english, i m italian.

if i configure to hibernate when closing the lid in energy option, the laptop does not hibernate. worked in 21.3 without issues
thx
anybody an idea how i can activate hibernation. it is very important for me.
thx
I have hibernation enabled and have no issues when I select the 'Log Out' icon, click on 'Hibernation' and when the screen goes blank, I shut the lid. When I open the lid, I get login scree in about 15 seconds. I do not like to set the unit to hibernate when I close the lid, have had too many issues over the years doing hibernation with that method.
