CharlesV wrote: Tue Jul 18, 2023 8:47 pm Not being that familiar with KDE, I'm not sure if this is a bug, or something I have done.

In RC2 installed on my hp, when I type in bash I get tabs IN the line, so it looks like this, but there are spaces no tabs?

Code: Select all

this	is	a	long line in bash
The cursor literally jumps to 'a tab stop' when I press the space bar. My VM's dont do this, and I have looked but not found any setting that would do this.

What have I done ?
My case is similar, applications such as Thunar have characters getting choppy like this.

Example:

Code: Select all

D esk op M sic P i res
(My environment has been updated to the latest from Beta2.)
It's happened twice so far, but a reboot fixed it.

It's a creepy bug. I didn't do anything in particular.

note: sorry, My environment is XFCE.
Maybe it's the same bug in KDE and XFCE.

I had the identical problem with MX-23 RC1.

When doing the initial reboot into the mx system, I get to the login screen and enter my password. The system thinks for a few seconds and gives me the login screen again. This goes on forever.

I looked at the system installed on the harddrive. There is nothing in the /home directory. This is what I experienced with RC1.

I was asked for my /var/log/minstall.log. I didn't know how to access it since I couldn't log in and use the system. But I found a way.

The log is here: https://pastebin.com/bHNV235E

Here is inxi:

Reboot didnt fix, and I only see this in the bash - Konsole but its like a space is a tab and the cursor is far away from the character I just typed too .. really odd

Here I have typed and stopped, and look how far the cursor is away from the last character.. really weird.
this one is too weird

Not needed in KDE, .debs should install when you click on them, don't they?

Yes, now that I look, correct. In Dolphin "Open with Discover" is top listing.

I was using Thunar (which I added to RC2) which did not offer Discover.

hello CharlesV and freja
a keybind shortcut involving Shift key.
I had the choppy, strange typing once.
The cause was a keybind that Started with the Shift key. Shift+
Found The Reassignment of a keybind having Shift+ solved that problem.
In freja example it looks like Shift+ may be involved; in CharlesV case, applying same principle, it looks like Tab in a key bind ?
Very obscure, but mentioned.

Thank you for this. The questions I would have here are:

a) Since I am on a brand new install: This is currently included in the RC2 ?
__and
b) I dont see any keybindings like your talking about, how can I find one?

bind - shows nothing bound to \t or \S

I updated kernel for S&G's to see if it would help and now it's working.

Installation failed on a system where Fedora 38 is installed on btrfs partitions. I wanted to install mx-linux on sda4. 1st I tried to install on a btrf partition. This failed. Than I wanted to use ext4 but this also failed.
Here are 2 screenshots of this. Hope this helps to solve it.
