What do you think is the origin of all these problems with the RC installer?

What changed from the betas?

I installed both of those as I always have done with MX isos. No problems, but with RC, immediate difference.
I don't recall the host of installer issues in the beta forums.

Was there some key package changed? A Debian thing?

Ouch...
But the betas worked well I think, so that is clearly a clue how to again make a good minstall.

Thanks for all your hard work.

Will there be a last candidate released so the last RC can directly roll to final?

Greetings all.

I realize that the devs are very active trying to stamp out bugs and get MX23 ready for prime time. That being said, in MX21 there were a couple of folders in the etc folder (/etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50local.d) where a file could be created that would allow bypassing the password requirement for most user actions. I am curious if those folders will be included in the final release.

Please be kind and do not attempt to explain the security features, etc. I understand the risks and am willing to accept them. I will repeat that statement for clarity, "I understand the risks and am willing to accept them."

I do not posess the knowledge to create the above listed file structure; but, I do know how to create the file to achieve my goal.

As always thank you all for your hard work and dedication to MX Linux.

policykit has changed a bit between debian 11 and debian 12. the folders are there but I don't know if what you had set up prior will work or not.

I'd like my default sound output and input to be with my attached TV thru HDMI for sound output and my attached webcam with mic for input.

I have set these both as default/fallback via pavucontrol gui of the sound icon on the panel, but with every reboot the default sound input and output are forgotten by the system and I have to set it up all over again.

Every boot/reboot, I have change the sound output everytime in the panel.

What am I missing? What should I do?

My internal laptop speakers are broken so I don't hear the bootup system sounds at login by the time I am able to setup the default to my external speakers (TV via HDMI). I'd like to hear the bootup system sounds I set up. :)

I've installed ffmpeg via MXPI. ffmpeg and ffprobe work as expected but ffplay has a problem:

So at first I played around with $DISPLAY but no joy. Then I've googled and tried a couple of remedies, no success either. Another proggy that I've installed (scrcpy) terminates with the same error message. OTOH QMPlay2, mpv and shotcut all work.

Re: MX-23 RC2 (Xfce) feedback thread

#90 Post by muskt »

Below are 2 screenshots of the polkit-1 folders from my install of 21.3 and 23 RC2.
The top shot is from RC2
There is no "localauthority" folder in the RC2 install.
"Show hidden files" is checked in both installs.
I experienced this same situation in the Alpha, and both Betas.
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks, as always
