MX-23 RC2 (Xfce) feedback thread

uidmap package is missing from MX Linux RC2. It's needed in order to run distrobox/podman. It's installed by default on Debian 12, so it's not set as a dependency for the distrobox package when it's installed. When you try and create a image using distrobox you get an error that newuidmap is missing.

i suggest this is a fault of the debian packaging. please file the pug against debian's package.

Sure! Be happy too! I was confused because it comes pre-installed on Debian 12, so if you install distrobox you don’t encounter the error, but the dependency issue is definitely broken.

Installed MX23 RC2 XFCE x64 to real hardware for a multiboot laptop. No issues detected. Works great!

I did notice though from my ventoy(1.93, latest) USB that XFCE 32 bit RC1 ans RC2 fail to boot properly; on several machines. This is probably low priority but I wanted to point it out. x64 XFCE and KDE boot just fine.

If you upgrade Ventoy it should work fine. Ah, I see that x64 works, not sure.

I upgraded the HP 15 to rc2 and the only glitch is that my headphones don't wok but the speaker works fine. I had the same problem with MX 21 and it was solved by installing the Liquorix 6.2.xxx kernel. I tried the same fix here, but there was no change.

I reverted to MX 21.3 because sound died completely last night and despite my best efforts, I couldn't get it back. The problem was that this laptop was showing "dummy output" for both speakers and headphones and there was no way to select another output device.

I am on MX-23_ahs_RC2_x64 with Xfce desktop.

that means the boot information is stored in your system nvram, but doesn't mean a boot configuration was found by grub, which requires likely the windows efi stub to be found in an ESP partition. Did you format the windows bootloader location?

can you manually look in sda1 and see if the windows boot loader efi stubs are present? should be under /EFI/Microsoft I think.

Ok, I think we've found a bug, whereby using preserve leads to deletion of everything in /boot/efi, due to a change in the mounting of the ESP partition in the process.
