YAHOOOOO!!!!
OK, I know I should not shout; however, I'm pumped.
Fehlix, your instructions worked perfectly, and I completed them on the first try.
I have spent several hours on this installation.
No way could I have ever come up with that solution.
Thank You so much,
Jerry

Re: MX-23 RC2 (Xfce) feedback thread
It may stay, but the issue maybe with the in the installer may be related to the udev, which is alsodolphin_oracle wrote: Sat Jul 15, 2023 5:43 pm @fehlix

"visable" (at least in all my tests) that after installer run, udev does not see any details (through udisks).
Not really knowing the cause of ths issue.
Code: Select all
sudo service udev stop && sudo service udev start
So changing it temparary the =most, is just because with =dep update-initram can't see what file system type is "/" onand fails.
SO after the run was done change it back to =dep.
On the installed booted system, the compressed initramfs shrinks from ~90MB to about ~20MB.
+++EDIT+++
OTHO, let's stay with debians defaul =most, to be on the safe side.
May be add some steps maybe before partprob or a before undev-reload is done,
a check whether udev is still working properly and if not stop/start udev.
I checked with mx-boot-repair and do not have any issue with udev.
Not sure what changes in the installer caused the issues, at last last time I checked the "chroot"ing, was done
the similare way in the installer as in mxbr and als similare as in chroot-rescue, which always worked.

sending up an updated installed to the package repo. There will be a better update later, but this one should allow installs to proceed when made from read-only media.

Sorry, dolphin_oracle,dolphin_oracle wrote: Sat Jul 15, 2023 9:35 pm sending up an updated installed to the package repo. There will be a better update later, but this one should allow installs to proceed when made from read-only media.
the latest RC2 fails to create the desired partition. It ends up like the RC2 and RC1 with:
Code: Select all
2023-07-16 09:37:39.462 DBG default: SErr #10: "Error: Partition(s) 1 on /dev/sdc have been written, but we have been unable to inform the kernel of the change, probably because it/they are in use. As a result, the old partition(s) will remain in use. You should reboot now before making further changes.\n"
We know that creating the usb-live-stick with the MX Live Usb-Maker in full mode results in successfull installation on UEFI-PC.

Re: MX-23 RC2 (Xfce) feedback thread
May i ask why swap-files instead of swap-partitions? Or is it written down or explained already somewhere. if it is, sorry for my asking. The Installer now supports swapfiles as well as swap partitions. The “regular” auto installation will default to swapfiles.

Re: MX-23 RC2 (Xfce) feedback thread
I also wanted to ask why the swap folder is installed by default instead of the swapfile??? Is that maybe better? Earlier beta versions installed the default swapfile of 4 gigs nicely and now swap folder is just 100 mb I'm a little confused ????AlphaElwedritsch wrote: Sun Jul 16, 2023 3:50 amMay i ask why swap-files instead of swap-partitions? Or is it written down or explained already somewhere. if it is, sorry for my asking. The Installer now supports swapfiles as well as swap partitions. The “regular” auto installation will default to swapfiles.
Re: MX-23 RC2 (Xfce) feedback thread
Swap files are more flexible and you can change them later without re-partitioning or re-installing the OS. In the case of the default install it made partitioning slightly easier, no need for a separate swap partition. Of course swap files are supported if you like, with custom partitioning.AlphaElwedritsch wrote: Sun Jul 16, 2023 3:50 amMay i ask why swap-files instead of swap-partitions? Now you can also enable zram in the services page within the installer. By default the zram is configured to 256MB (Debian's wonderful defaults) but you can edit /etc/default/zramswap to change it.
100MB doesn't sound right to me, is there a file called "swap" in there that's 4GB? Use sudo ls -lsh /swap/ as it is installed with 0600 permissions. If that file still isn't right, do you have a minstall.log? Use the new Quick System Info tool, select both the Quick System Info and minstall.log from the list, save to a zip ("Save (x2)...") and post the zip here. Zip should contain two files (sysinfo.txt and minstall.log).radac wrote: Sun Jul 16, 2023 5:28 amI also wanted to ask why the swap folder is installed by default instead of the swapfile??? As to your question about a folder, this was done because we found with Btrfs it is best to use swap in its own subvolume, and since putting it in a folder doesn't do any harm, this is the approach that was adopted across the board.
