I think this is it. sdb is the boot thumb drive. Also sdc is listed but doesn't exist.

edit: the thumb drive was altered and now only boots in Legacy mode.

BTW, This is the prettiest desktop MX has ever released, IMHO. Well done everyone. Just so much to like, nomacs as the default image viewer...

Re: MX-23 (Xfce) RC1 feedback

#52 Post by doodstecsonhere »

Hi, @dolphin_oracle and MX Team company.

I'm on the live usb now of MX-23 XFCE RC1.

I found an installation issue with MX-PackageInstaller “Popular Apps”, specifically: MEGAsync.

I've attached the /var/log/mxpi.log file which contains the log of the issue (at the very bottom).

Sorry the log file is sooo long, I don't know where the installation log entries for MEGAsync exactly began, but it's on the last part of the log file.

Also, not sure if this is directly related to the problem: on the MEGA website download page, there isn't an official version available for Debian 12 yet: https://mega.io/desktop#downloadapps

I couldn't install the deb version manually either (without MX Package Installer), but I was able to install the flatpak thru MX Package Installer.

This is my QSI:

IIRC you need to download the most recent version fitting Debian 12 from their site.

Debian Testing on there I believe is the fitting one.
MX-23.6_x64 July 31 2023 * 6.1.0-37amd64 ext4 Xfce 4.20.0 * 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 2700
Asus TUF B450-Plus Gaming UEFI * Asus GTX 1050 Ti Nvidia 535.247.01 * 2x16Gb DDR4 2666 Kingston HyperX Predator
Samsung 870EVO * Samsung S24D330 & P2250 * HP Envy 5030

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try that. 👌👍☀️

Opened the Volume Control app and selected the Configuration tab. The Profile: drop down menu arrow on the right end of the drop down menu window is not visable until you grab the right side of the Volume Control app window and move it to the right, almost 3" on my unit.

This is how I got the sound to work on my unit, FYI:

Code: Select all

1) Open Terminal
2) sudo gedit /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/analog-output-speaker.conf #the path needs to be changed in newer distros to /usr/share/alsa-card-profile/mixer/paths/
3) In the analog-output-speaker.conf file,
CHANGE:
[Element Headphone]
switch = off
volume = off
TO:
[Element Headphone]
switch = off
volume = merge
override-map.1 = all
override-map.2 = all-left,all-right
CHANGE:
[Element Speaker]
required-any = any
switch = mute
volume = merge
override-map.1 = all
override-map.2 = all-left,all-right
TO:
[Element Speaker]
required-any = any
switch = mute
volume = off
4) Save
5) Open Terminal
7) sudo reboot
Now the sound works without an external speaker.

I noticed that the SD activity LED does NOT start to blink constantly until the MX logo is displayed as the unit boots.

And the QSI

Re: MX-23 (Xfce) RC1 feedback

#56 Post by entropyfoe »

I am having problems installing the RC 1 also, the partitions are not prepared. This is the same machine I used for testing the two betas, there the install was fine.

OK, some detail, I downloaded the iso last night, checked md5, it was OK today, and used the MX Live USB creator from my beta2 install, a static USB.
The USB went well, boots fine and fast, things run well live, but when I install, as reported above, the partitions are not prepared.

When you install, it checks the install media with the colorful animation, no error was reported from that scan.

I think is is something with the USB sdc EFI partition, mine is the same, and I did not select it during the install. Only my existing swap nvmep2, and for /, nvmep4.

But even if I install now deselecting the sdc partition, same error. I attach the minstal.log

I wonder if the ESP partition is now damaged on the USB drive? Hmm maybe I will retry making the USB again.
I also attach a screen capture, one with the sdc where it was selected. and QSI.

We just sent an installer update to the repo. Should be up in a bit.

First post edited to indicate a major issue with the installer.

OK, excellent. Nothing new in synaptic yet, I'll keep reloading until I see it.

Any name or version for the updated install file?

All I see install related in synaptic is

Code: Select all

mx-packageinstaller-pkglist 23.07.17 up to 23.07.18

details here: viewtopic.php?t=75977

I didn't come across this issue during my install. Custom partitioning is preselected for me due to having an ESP partition and a root partition. (no dual boot)
I deselected the ventoy ESP entry during my partition setup so that the next screen shows only my hard drive ESP partition.
I just checked my live ISO and it still boots.
