quick-system-info will tell you.dadada wrote: Mon Jul 10, 2023 2:42 pm Hi.
I am currently using Mx-23. The question is, which version? I know that I downloaded the beta one and had it installed. I was enjoying using that. Later I downloaded beta two with intentions of checking it out for you (and of course myself.) I am not certain if I installed it. I don't think so.
Is there someway to check which beta I am using? Or is beta one updated to beta two anyway, by way of updates?
Thanks for your attention.

Re: MX-23 beta 2 feedback thread
Dear @Melber ,
I have no problem installing;
MX XFCE beta 2 - 64bits
MX KDE beta 2 - 64bits
So I don't understand how you install MX Fluxbox beta 2 - 64bits?
Have you tested the 32-bit version or the 64-bit version?
In what language do you launch the Live USB key? English?
Best regards,
Wallon

@Wallon
I installed with the system language set to German (de_DE) and just clicked the install icon. I had first tested the live-usb with both English and German and all 3 icons worked fine.
The videos and software icons also work fine in my installed version (with German as system language).
As I said, I don't have your issue when I boot the live-usb and select either fr_BE or fr as system language at the grub screen.
Have you tried creating a new desktop icon with MX-idesktool and checking if the new icon works?

What are the contents of these files on your live usb?
/usr/local/share/live-files/files/etc/skel/.idesktop/gazelle.lnk
~/.idesktop/Software.lnk
~/.idesktop/Videos.lnk
Code: Select all

Dear @Melber,
To install MX Flubox beta 2 - 64 bit, you need to launch the Live USB key in English.
The icons are active. I managed to install it in [fr_BE]
So there is a big BUG! If you launch the Live USB key in French or in French Belgium, the icons are not active.
Translation problem? Wrong typewriter apostrophe in the translation?
Best regards,
Wallon

Re: MX-23 beta 2 feedback thread
@Wallon, what type of USB stick are you using when making the Live-USB? It has been my experience that budget models can be troublesome. On a machine like yours, it should take roughly 3-5 minutes to burn a Live-USB using a median quality USB Thumb drive. If it's taking much longer, like 7 minutes, then I would recommend replacing it with a quality unit, they make a world of difference. Personally, I use USB-SSD drives like this one --> https://www.netac.com/product/US2-54.html, and the key to getting a decent unit is to look for the drives capabilities in MBPS instead of just the USB standard it conforms to.
Another thing I noticed from your qsi posted on page 51 --> viewtopic.php?p=732433#p732433 <-- where your hardware stands out from the norm is the 4K 3840*1080 display with the open-source Noveau driver. If you can spare the time and effort, what effect does installing the nvidia driver have on your machine? I'm thinking in terms of the display x-y mapping here potentially not aligning with the icon positioning.
@dolphin_oracle is it possible to boot live with root persistence, install the nvidia drivers and reboot with persistence again to get a working nvidia driver at the next boot? I don't have any machines with such hardware so I just don't know.
If it is possible, I wonder if it would assist with the issue above, specifically in relation to mapping the icon positions to mouse clicks. Wallon has now got a fully featured Live USB and should be able to make changes running live, save them in persistence and potentially re-use them? (drivers) for subsequent live-with-persistence runs.
