Re: MX-23 beta 2 feedback thread
Finished the upgrade. No issues so far. Got the broken pipe errors during install but all seems okay. I will post if any issues arise.

apt-notifier
I have a problem with apt notifier (MX Updater), it's broken and I can't realize if I messed up or not.I reinstalled python3 and dependencies, atk, apt, that I found in the repo and I can't figure it out.Code: Select all
$ apt-notifier $ Gtk-Message: 22:04:00.608: Failed to load module "gail" ** (python3:3609): WARNING **: 22:04:00.615: (../atk-adaptor/bridge.c:1105):atk_bridge_adaptor_init: runtime check failed: (root)
Updates still work on synaptic ... but somehow I think I've broken something maybe not a bug.
The message you got, is based on a missing module used by accessibility library:
Wouldhelp?Code: Select all
sudo apt install libgail-common
I ended up going to synaptic just to browse again... and the search for GAIL is different from LIBGAIL, my bad.
I also reenabled the status tray plugin on my panel.
I'm dumber by the day!
That's why this community and OS is the best! Thanks

The "broke pipe" warning is a dkms tool issue, which probably some one upstream need to fix :mklym wrote: Thu Jun 22, 2023 5:56 pm Finished the upgrade. No issues so far. Got the broken pipe errors during install but all seems okay. I will post if any issues arise.![]()

hello dolphin_oracle
mx-installer 23.6.05
minstall --oem Success.
finished; then startup ootb.
install had a home/demo directory that i deleted.
yes home has a demo and the user the ootb just created. demo is not an account, just a directory, so i delete the directory.
The previous installer triggered once --ootb on a xfce install and was got the same stray /demo directory. i deleted it.
Beautiful. almost the new default except the spare /demo.
Best installer in the business.

Thank you!fehlix wrote: Thu Jun 22, 2023 4:37 pmOn the web-page, the single quotes and double-quotes are displayed wrongly (or better have beenmklym wrote: Thu Jun 22, 2023 4:17 pm I am trying to upgrade from 21.3 to MX23. I am following the instructions found here:
https://mxlinux.org/wiki/system/upgradi ... nstalling/
All is good until I run the following command as root in terminal:
This is the error I get:Code: Select all
$ find /etc/apt -name “*.list” -exec sudo sed -i ‘s/bullseye/bookworm/g’ {} +
Code: Select all
$ grep -qF ‘non-free-firmware’ /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list || sudo sed -i ‘s/non-free/non-free non-free-firmware/g’ /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list sed: -e expression #1, char 1: unknown command: `'
replaced by the used web-software.
And if you just copy paste the command those quotings chars will result in such an error,
b/c they have been replaced wrongly by the web-site rendering software (I think wordpress )
So you need edit first the copied command and replace all single quotes and double quotes properly:
e.g. this commnad is wrong:replace all “ and ” with normal double quotes "Code: Select all
find /etc/apt -name “*.list” -exec sudo sed -i ‘s/bullseye/bookworm/g’ {} +
and all singel quotes ‘ and ’ with normal single quotes '
so it looks like this:the same for the other command.Code: Select all
find /etc/apt -name "*.list" -exec sudo sed -i 's/bullseye/bookworm/g' {} +
wrong:corrected:Code: Select all
grep -qF ‘non-free-firmware’ /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list || sudo sed -i ‘s/non-free/non-free non-free-firmware/g’ /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list
@Adrian suggest to use codebox for these commands to avoid those quot-char issue.Code: Select all
grep -qF 'non-free-firmware' /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list || sudo sed -i 's/non-free/non-free non-free-firmware/g' /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list
Maybe @peregrine could help to add those codeboxes,
on this page https://mxlinux.org/wiki/system/upgradi ... nstalling/
something similare was done on the Signature verifcation web-page
https://mxlinux.org/wiki/system/signed-iso-files/,
where codeboxes have been added by @peregrine

If a user has a Realtek adapter, is there any reason not to remove the other two packages (keeping only the one matching the adapter)?

Mine is an internal wifi/bluetooth pcie I changed (not original, first one died) a while ago on my laptop.

Ventoy 1.0.93 was released today.
It fixed MX-23 not booting (for me, anyway).

I'm sure the MX patch was added to this version. 1.0.91 didn't have it.
*edit
@BV206 Installed Ventoy 1.0.93 on my thumb drive and copied over my MX-23 fluxbox beta 2 ISO and it booted up without any errors.

This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Fluxbox is useless. Without my Fluxbox, I am useless.
