Frankly, this sounds like a VBox issue, rather than a problem with the beta2 release. Many users (myself included) have had no difficulty installing beta2 in VBox. I do see the broken pipe errors mentioned upthread when updating the Realtek dkms modules ("/usr/bin/dkms: line 2497: echo: write error: broken pipe"), but the VM runs fine otherwise.

Code: Select all

$ inxi -SM
System:
Host: mx-beta2 Kernel: 6.1.0-9-amd64 arch: x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: Xfce
    v: 4.18.1 Distro: MX-23_beta2_x64 Libretto June 15 2023
Machine:
Type: Virtualbox System: innotek GmbH product: VirtualBox v: 1.2
    serial: <superuser required>
  Mobo: Oracle model: VirtualBox v: 1.2 serial: <superuser required>
BIOS: innotek GmbH v: VirtualBox date: 12/01/2006
OK, I really appreciate the feedback.

I'll just keep trying... :crossfingers:

Perhaps you have done this already, but I would try running fsck manually from a live session

Gaer Boy wrote: Mon Jun 19, 2023 12:07 pm I'm having a problem with booting. It looks like something has gone awry with the install but I've repeated it with the same result. Live USB runs fine, install 64-bit XFCE to SSD, /dev/sdb6, labelled rootMX23, swap to /dev/sdc11. Grub not installed to EFI, updated later on MX-21.
Installing without GRUB is possible, But you would get a GRUB menu entry generated on MX-21 with root=/dev/sdXY, where the device name is used which can be problemeatic, b/c when not using root=UUID=xxxx the device name may have changed next boot (b/c assigned differently by the kernel) and the grub menu may not work anymore. Suggest to always install GRUB, even if not used as primary boot menu.

What I would do in your shoes is wait for MX-23 to go final, then if the problem persists open a support thread on the topic.

You could install grub to the root partition and it won’t effect previously installed grub.

MX Fluxbox:
Latest installer upgrade took away minstall-pkexec ( in favour of recently introduced minstall-launcher)
which makes Installer icon on MX Fluxbox non-functional.

Sounds good.

A bit weird, since I installed Windows (7 & 10) in VirtualBox, with Guest Additions, and Shared Folders between Guest & Host, working with no problems at all.

Anyway, will take your advice, and keep working at it... :crossfingers:

Just wanted to report that I could successfully install (full disc) and use fluxbox 64 bit edition beta 2 on an old Dell Inspiron 9400 with disc encryption. Didn't notice any obvious problems. Even hibernate works (checked the box on installation) flawlessly. Great job MX Team. :)

@bbfuller This is the MX-23 beta 2 feedback thread. Install the beta 2 version and if you still have issues post your QSI along with it.
This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Fluxbox is useless. Without my Fluxbox, I am useless.

We can either put it back or change the gazelle.lnk file in the mx-fluxbox package.
