That's definitely a question for Melber. It wouldn't happen though until after Final -- we're smack dab in the middle of feature freeze now.
@siamhie I have been fiddling with mxfb-look to include gkrellm monitor and dock settings. Can look into adding cursors too...but, as Jerry said, it won't be happening before final release.

Been trying to get Beta-2, Xfce (64-bit) to work with VirtualBox.
Was spotty, but finally got it installed (32GB vdi, 16GB RAM).

Updates, partially, but with a number of errors: "HASH MISMATCH", "pipe broken", "can't get package" (or something to that effect).

I can't post to the Forum from VBox because Firefox keeps crashing.

Unfortunately, also having trouble with copying /var/log/mxpi(.install?) to Host machine, so I can't at this point relay relevant info from VBox environment.

Could use some suggestions about best way to set it up.

Anyway, here's my QSI (Host):

@ Jerry3904

'mx-updater' is not displayed, i used 'synaptic', reload and apply ... reboot. ...

Now I have a horrendous panel looks like 'fluxbox', although it still saying: xfce4-panel 4.18.2 :bawling:

OK, thanks @Melber.

One other item that I brought up in beta 1 was certain styles display a sub-menu with more than 34 items as one long entry. @m_pav @Jerry3904 ?

Image

If you edit that particular style and change the value for menu.bevelWidth: from 1 to 2 then the entries are set into 2 columns.

Image

It would be easier if an entry was added to Overlay so that any style that has the value 1 gets set to 2 automatically.

Code: Select all

menu.bevelWidth: 2
This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Fluxbox is useless. Without my Fluxbox, I am useless.

@ Jerry3904

I went to the user manual to where the information about Xfce4 is, over there I found an alternative:
MX Tweak > Panel tab, click "Options" button under Docklike
It's not exactly like that but after a little struggle with the little window that opened ... I could 'apply' ... and in a few seconds the 'default panel' appeared -- I just lost the settings, a minor problem!.

Thanks.

I'm having a problem with booting. It looks like something has gone awry with the install but I've repeated it with the same result. Live USB runs fine, install 64-bit XFCE to SSD, /dev/sdb6, labelled rootMX23, swap to /dev/sdc11. Grub not installed to EFI, updated later on MX-21.

Booting stops early with errors re files not found. Screen photo attached.
bootfail.jpg
One oddity I notice - at the fsck /dev/sda6 message, the data-3-6 is the label on an empty partition on another disk. On another booting attempt it was data-2-6, which is an empty partition on a 3rd disk. There seem to be a lot of error messages in the minstall.log file.
minstall.log
For completeness, QSI.

Windows and samba shares

#139 Post by bbfuller »

I was interested to follow this topic:

viewtopic.php?t=75664

about Windows discovery of samba shares and the recommendation to install the "wsdd" package.

I've just done that on a 21.3 installation and in a 23-beta1.

The 21.3 installation came from the test repository and works as far as a cursory test is concerned.
sudo service wsdd status
reveals a running service with no further input required on my behalf.

On the 23-beta1 system after install the service status command results in
wsdd: unrecognized service
Is there something I am missing?

The wsdd file is in /usr/sbin on both machines

Frankly, this sounds like a VBox issue, rather than a problem with the beta2 release. Many users (myself included) have had no difficulty installing beta2 in VBox. I do see the broken pipe errors mentioned upthread when updating the Realtek dkms modules ("/usr/bin/dkms: line 2497: echo: write error: broken pipe"), but the VM runs fine otherwise.
