peter_li wrote: Fri Jun 16, 2023 2:27 am But what it does not correct detected: my SWAP partition, so I now have only the swapfile which I created during installation,

I found out now:

Code: Select all

sudo blkid

/dev/sdb6: UUID="3c53b71b-9495-4e33-a35a-c634602cd40b" TYPE="swap" PARTUUID="ee946357-d891-4c07-b86e-4bc74850a1af"
This was not added to my /etc/fstab as I expected during the installation:

Code: Select all

# Pluggable devices are handled by uDev, they are not in fstab
UUID=93ec028b-5eac-4c2a-9429-3c0b8df5435f / ext4 noatime 1 1
UUID=7366-5199 /boot/efi vfat noatime,dmask=0002,fmask=0113 0 0
/swapfile swap swap defaults 0 0
So I added it now by hand:

Code: Select all

# Dedicated swap partition
UUID=3c53b71b-9495-4e33-a35a-c634602cd40b none swap defaults 0 0
which results to this:

Code: Select all

$ sudo swapon -a -v
swapon: /dev/sdb6: Signatur gefunden [Seitengröße=4096, Signatur=swap]
swapon: /dev/sdb6: Seitengröße=4096, Swapgröße=8469348352, Gerätegröße=8469348352
swapon /dev/sdb6
swapon: /swapfile: bereits aktiv -- wird ignoriert
$ swapon -s -v
Dateiname				Typ		Größe		Benutzt		Priorität
/swapfile                               file		2097148		0		-2
/dev/sdb6                               partition	8270844		0		-3
which works now. But the system names it sdb where I think it should be sda.

Maybe this page in the MX Wiki could be improved(cause mostly empty)?

Glad to report that the nvidia driver installs fine on the machine here and things seem to be working ok. Currently in 21 but I wager no info is needed, as it is working. :)

Hello @dolphin_oracle,
Installer failed Phase 3 - Grub installation failed.
Installing on BTRFS with encryption, alongside Windows (EFI partition preserved, formerly there was MX23 alpha, on EXT4 w/o encr.).
Created BRTFS subvolumes @, @home in installer.
minstall.log attached.

which results to this:

/dev/sdb6                               partition	8270844		0		-3
which works now. But the system names it sdb where I think it should be sda.

Maybe this page in the MX Wiki could be improved(cause mostly empty)?
so if I understand correctly you specified both a swap partition an a swapfile during installation, but only the swapfile was created/used?

I have repeated the installation process just with the change of filesystem to EXT4, encrypted, and Home on the root partition. All went well. I can attach the log, if needed, too. (Writing from another machine)

One idea:
@dolphin_oracle,
may I ask for input box in installer on encryption page, where I can input parameters to override encryption? Like encryption algo, keysize, hash algo, etc...
It would be nice if it shows actual encryption parameters (commandline args), and initially disabled, to not allow users to mess with it. Beside it the checkbox "allow finetuning of encryption. Only for advanced users.", which will enable the inputbox, making it editable.
It would be awesome to have it like that. I am sure there will be users grateful for that. Not everybody uses AES, and/or SHA512.

we used to have that, but in looking at a lot of log files, I don't think anyone actually used it, so it was removed. Probably not high on the list to add back, but we will keep it in mind.
