Re: MX-23 beta 1 feedback thread
Wow! MX-23 beta got Plasma 5.27.5 and Fedora 37 is stuck on Plasma 5.27.4 forever. How embarrassing.
Re: MX-23 beta 1 feedback thread
Currently I am also using MX21.3 but as I see in Debian 12 "Bookworm" there are newer packages. In Debian 11 "Bullseye" there are also no nvidia 340 drivers as standard, but in MX 21 they appeared, so I went back to MX linux. I think that if there were also drivers for Nvidia 340 in the new MX 23, there would be more users with these old Nvidia cards.
Re: MX-23 beta 1 feedback thread
As mentioned in Help, I made a persistent live USB with MX23 Beta 1, but I have to input 0 every time I log in so as to get into my persistent live USB environment.
This USB was made with Rufus on Windows 10 and was modified with the F keys while booting it.
I made the same persistent live USB but with MX21.3 this time and through the live USB maker app in MX 21.3.
It works fine, so I don't have to manually enter 0 to boot into it now. Nevertheless, the USB stick is not super responsive.
I'll try the Beta 1 MX23 on another USB stick through Live USB maker this time to see if it behaves as it should.

Upgrade to Fedora KDE 38, there's Plasma 5.27.5 in it. Good Wayland session (on my machine anyway) and sddm 0.20 which can run with native Wayland. Surprised to hear they didn't package 5.27.5 for Fedora 37 though.Joseph DeGarmo wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 8:41 am Wow! MX-23 beta got Plasma 5.27.5 and Fedora 37 is stuck on Plasma 5.27.4 forever. And when you do, be sure to install and use dnf5, it's a lot better than the old dnf!

@Jaki
https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDriversVersion 340.108 (legacy GPUs) (supported devices)
Older legacy driver, for GeForce 8 series through GeForce 300 series. No Vulkan support, supports up to OpenGL 3.3 depending on your card.
Use of the 340-series driver is strongly discouraged. It is not included in stable releases of Debian anymore, has serious unfixable security vulnerabilities,
and may not be updated for new kernels in a timely manner. You are highly recommended to use the built-in Nouveau driver if security is a priority.
This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Fluxbox is useless. Without my Fluxbox, I am useless.

No, that computer is NOT upgrading to Fedora 38. It's moving to MX-23 KDE and/or LMDE 6.AK-47 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 9:15 amUpgrade to Fedora KDE 38, there's Plasma 5.27.5 in it. unless i'm missing something kio-admin provides the "Open as administrator" menu entry in dolphin, but not the other root actions.gurpreetkapoor wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 10:26 amkde plasma 5.27.5 has all the functionality by default, which is provided by kde-servicemenu-rootactions, I am not sure whether kde-servicemenu-rootactions package is maintained upstream or not. kio-admin package is available in debian 12, it also enables root menu action in dolphin and other graphical applications on right click.dolphin_oracle wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 10:22 amwhat is the reason to do that?gurpreetkapoor wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 10:16 am just a suggestion. Why not mx 23 Kde Plasma move to kio-admin instead of kde-servicemenu-rootactions by default???
I'm OK either way, but they don't appear to be 1-for-1 at first glance. @Adrian

we've addressed this bug in the latest mx-installer coming soonish.OlafD wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 8:23 amfstab:dolphin_oracle wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 7:58 amcan you get the /etc/fstab file and the /var/log/minstall.log file from the installed system and post them?OlafD wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 5:24 am xfce with btrfs and subvolumes @root and @home: boot-problmes and unable to login

I can't make QSI because i'm unable to login.
Installed xfce 64 bit UEFI with standard install specs.
Restart after Installing shows prompt with the choice of "maintenance mode". I cancel it with Ctrl+D. Also you can see the slow Boot-Logo live. And i'm not able to Login. After entering password and hit Enter it switched to the Login-Screen back (same as in KDE in my previous post). Here ist a video:

Re: MX-23 beta 1 feedback thread
wine and veracrypt should now both be installable from popular apps or any other package manager.MadMax wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 4:40 am Alright, sounds good. I'm familiar with cryptsetup, so that's no problem.
Let's continue.
7. when trying to install "veracrypt" from MXPI popular apps I get the following error. The package is not present in a repository.
8. David Batch processor crashes GIMP when closing it (after installing GIMP Full from MXPI popular apps), probably not a MX problem, but a problem of the plugin.Code: Select all
Unable to apply some actions, aborting Couldn't find any package matching "veracrypt", but there are 26 packages which contain "veracrypt" in their description:
9. I used to install Discord and Skype as flatpaks. How are they installed from MXPI popular apps? I noticed it downloads a deb file and then installs it manually. Do I still get updates that way?
EDIT:
10. fsearch is not in the repositories. I think it is/was in the MX 19 repos. Did it get removed?
Overall I have to say, the beta runs really well. Autostart for both Skype and Discord do work properly (didn't work with the flatpaks in MX19, but was also no big issue for me), editing boot options worked, uninstalling Thunderbird and LibreOffice worked. Keyring recognition works (keyring gets the user password as its password) for Google Chrome and Discord.
I also installed the Faba icon theme and switched the WM theme to Greybird-mx and I'm feeling at home alreadyI will keep mx-comfort for the window frames, though. Really like the unintrusive design. I'm looking forward to the final release.
