the output of the virtualbox attempt indicates you have packages not quite installed.

Code: Select all

9 not fully installed or removed.
this can cause all sorts of issues.

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg --configure -a
to clear them up, or at least to get the install going again.
Thanks DO! It seems to have fixed most of it. Running seems to be a normal set of Virtual Box behaviors.

  • 3. root password:
I did the installation WITHOUT root user. At some point, and I can't trace what happened before, my sudo password was no longer accepted (when I tried to open a directory as root in Dolphin). I was able to generate a password for root with "passwd root". But this suggests that the root was already created, which I did not do. Very strange. For now, I'm fine with it.
  • 4. sd-card, usb-stick only readable
If I insert a SD card or a USB stick, I can work with it normally. However, after a few minutes, these directories are read-only and I can no longer save or copy anything to them. I had to eject and remount it again and again.
Also changing in MX-Tweaks (Enable mount...by user without root privileges) did not help.
  • 6 WLAN
Connecting to my cell phone via hotspot works (password was saved).
Connecting to my FritzBox and entering the router password in the known place (by clicking on the WLAN icon of the taskbar) another window (polkit) popped up and I had to enter the router password again). After a reboot, I had to enter it again (in the popup window). So it did not save it.
I found out that I am not in the sudoers file. When I tried to add myself to the wheel group, I got a message that the wheel group does not exist.

I am sure that during the installation I only created me as a user and left the root account disabled.

Apparently something must have happened during testing (package installtion, settings,,...) whatever that may have been.

xfce with btrfs and subvolumes @root and @home: boot-problmes and unable to login

Macbook 11,1 from 2012/2013 8same as in my last post: viewtopic.php?p=726957#p726957

I can't make QSI because i'm unable to login.

Installed xfce 64 bit UEFI with standard install specs.

Restart after Installing shows prompt with the choice of "maintenance mode". I cancel it with Ctrl+D. Also you can see the slow Boot-Logo live. And i'm not able to Login. After entering password and hit Enter it switched to the Login-Screen back (same as in KDE in my previous post). Here ist a video:

https://cloud.olafdressler.de/index.php ... 7SaisSWppW

Here i've another video with the boot-process after hitting Ctrl+D:

VirtualBox 7 is not yet compatible on Debian 12. Oracle will not release it to the Bookworm repositories until after it gets a stable release.
We have our own builds of virtualbox 7 on bookworm.

  • 3. root password:

All users should be part of the sudo group by default. It’s possible to create an account without the user being in the sudo group via mx user manager but the installer doesn’t do that.

The root account is always present. If you don’t set a password it’s locked but it’s still there.

Here i've another video with the boot-process after hitting Ctrl+D:

can you get the /etc/fstab file and the /var/log/minstall.log file from the installed system and post them?
