live-usb-maker tool now available as an AppImage

"For those non-MX or non-antiX linux users who might need to write iso images to USB sticks, we now have the joint antiX/MX live-usb-maker tool available as an AppImage. The tool has been tested on Manjaro, Debian buster and stretch, arch, Porteus, gentoo, xubuntu and ubuntu. You can use it to make a “disc-on-a-stick” similar to etcher, and if you happen to be making a antiX/MX family live-usb, you can use the “full-featured” mode as well to be able to access our persistence features right on the first boot of your live-usb! "

The 64bit-only AppImage (sorry , no 32 bit) is available here: https://github.com/MX-Linux/lum-qt-appimage/releases/tag/19.11.02

Please post your Quick System Info, and the error message.
Pentium 3 1ghz

4gb of sdram pc133 ecc

64gb cf card to ide adapter

Ati Radeon HD 3650 silent by asus
The Quick System Info can be found in the application menu, please run it and paste the WHOLE text here. This thread is meant to help the developers so your bug report must be helpful and detailed, with full details of your hardware.

Also, you did not post the whole text of the error message you got. Without the error message, the devs will be guessing as to what the problem actually was.
sorry about that.[https://sta.sh/0ziw75bdbg7 don't know how to upload an image but hope this helps.

If you are using Windows, try Rufus. If MX Linux is your host system, then use MX USB Maker. If using a different Linux distro, then try mintstick (found in Linux Mint and available as a .deb package for Ubuntu, AUR for Arch Linux, or in the Debian bookworm repos) or Fedora Media Writer (if you are using Fedora). I created an MX-23 beta live USB using Fedora Media Writer and it works just fine from my end.
Mintstick doesn’t make the trick. Failure again. Will try with mx usb maker.

Edit 21:55 : MX USB Maker failed too.
That's weird. Fedora Media Writer worked for me. And it requires Fedora. I'll boot up Linux Mint tomorrow and try it for myself. I'll also try it out on my MX-21 laptop. Have you tried Balena Etcher? I heard it's quite good.
Already tried. In vain.

submenus/appearance Menu
loose ends
When a dockmaker.mxdk is deleted, it still shows on the Appearance Menu >Docks >Docks
edit: oh. i see. delete using mx-dockmaker does remove it from menu. Use the tool. Thanks.

  • 5. no sound anymore
The sound was working. At some point, however, it stopped and I can't say exactly when. The taskbar icon shows a crossed out speaker icon and clicking on it shows me no devices.
The MX sound card selection only offers me HDMI and PCH, no internal sound card.
  • 5a.
My Apple Airpods do not connect via Bluetooth, which works in MX21 and other distros.

Postscript:

During a regular system update Pipewire was updated and the sound works again.

Thanks a lot.
Another one that the fever of MX Linux grabbed

mx-dockmaker refresh is leaving conky not healthy.

toggle conky in the menu with the change dock choice
it quiets conky.
[exec] (afterup) {/home/demo/.fluxbox/scripts/aftercommand.mxdk ;conkytoggle.sh ;conkytoggle.sh}

mx-dockmaker needs something about refresh conky? @Adrian

I've seen that too--there's now improved (and long!) refresh code in the rootMenu

Code: Select all

fluxbox-remote reloadstyle; fluxbox-remote reconfigure; idesktoggle idesk refresh
EDIT: code corrected.
Production: 5.10, MX-23 Xfce, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 16 GB, SSD 120 GB, Data 1TB

Other: Raspberry Pi 5 with MX-23 Xfce Raspberry Pi Respin

{code]fluxbox-remote restart reloadstyle; idesktoggle idesk refresh[/code]
huhhh ??? are we back again to the 'old' restart command: fluxbox-remote restart - instead of the much smoother refresh command:

Code: Select all

fluxbox-remote reloadstyle; fluxbox-remote reconfigure; idesktoggle idesk refresh
that works just fine, or?
fwiw: I still have the old restart entry in rootmenu; just in case, when fluxbox is acting weird...
