If you are using Windows, try Rufus. If MX Linux is your host system, then use MX USB Maker. If using a different Linux distro, then try mintstick (found in Linux Mint and available as a .deb package for Ubuntu, AUR for Arch Linux, or in the Debian bookworm repos) or Fedora Media Writer (if you are using Fedora). I created an MX-23 beta live USB using Fedora Media Writer and it works just fine from my end.monsieurzik wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 12:32 pm Unable to boot on usb, it's written that antix is not able to find the bootloader. Ventoy: This has been addressed before in this or the alpha thread. Ventoy isn't recognising some file in MX23 due to some changes made in MX. A push request has been made to Ventoy devs but until they accept the changes, Ventoy won't work with MX23.

The joystick conf in usr/share works just fine with no breakage of wayland. Tested this on a live USB.dolphin_oracle wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 11:14 pmno worries. I've tried the wayland session a little but not much. my main issue, and it doesn't matter much for a default kde iso, is that it doesn't seem to launch from anything other than sddm.Joseph DeGarmo wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 10:57 pmOK, sorry about that. I'm using Wayland on Plasma on my main Fedora computer and the difference compared to Wayland on Plasma 5.20 is night and day. Wayland is now 95% usable on Plasma 5.27.
if the joystick configuration work under /usr/share/X11 that gets a step closer

Re: MX-23 beta 1 feedback thread
This is a Ventoy bug. The MX developers have notified Ventoy.monsieurzik wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 12:32 pm Unable to boot on usb, it's written that antix is not able to find the bootloader. On single usb booting key and with Ventoy.
Workaround is to create a conventional bootable USB with the MX Linux Beta 1 ISO.

Mintstick doesn’t make the trick. Failure again. Will try with mx usb maker.Joseph DeGarmo wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 1:06 pmIf you are using Windows, try Rufus. I see that swapiness is now handled a bit differently.
It is still defaulted to 15.
But in /etc/sysctl.d/ there is now a 99-swapiness_mx.conf with the value.
Not a problem, but if someone is looking for it.
I set mine to 1.

we've done that for a while. debian defaults to 60 I think.entropyfoe wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 3:51 pm I see that swapiness is now handled a bit differently.

d_o,
Thanks, yea most people have loats of RAM these days.
The beta is looking very good , a worthy beta in the Warren tradition, more stable than a lot of released distributions.

When this happens to me, it can almost always be corrected if I use MX Format USB to reformat the device first.monsieurzik wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 3:23 pm

That's weird. Fedora Media Writer worked for me. And it requires Fedora. I'll boot up Linux Mint tomorrow and try it for myself. I'll also try it out on my MX-21 laptop. Have you tried Balena Etcher? I heard it's quite good.monsieurzik wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 3:23 pmMintstick doesn’t make the trick. Failure again.
