MX-23 beta 1 feedback thread
Re: MX-23 beta 1 feedback thread
I do not understand what orgX or Wyland is. But if I understand right, Wyland will give better results for UltraHD monitors, when we have to scale. Right?
So my question is: Would it be possible and meaningful also to implement Wyland into "MX-23 Xfce" by default or as Tweak- Option?

Re: MX-23 beta 1 feedback thread
XFCE is not ready for Wayland yet. It's not just a something you install and turn on. The desktop environment must work with it.Duliwi wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 2:03 am I do not understand what orgX or Wyland is. I will note that even on the latest Gnome in Arch, there are irritations still with Wayland. I can't paste any command/text into terminal if I'm logged into Wayland. That is really annoying and I went back to Xorg on my Arch install.

Re: MX-23 beta 1 feedback thread
At this time, GNOME and KDE Plasma are the only desktops which support Wayland. And I am able to successfully paste copied text onto the terminal in Plasma Wayland. Other than a few minor bugs, Plasma Wayland works fairly well and is useful on my 4K display with 200% scaling. That's why I use Wayland on Plasma.asqwerth wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 2:24 amXFCE is not ready for Wayland yet. It's not just a something you install and turn on. Hello Melber
MX-Comfort.cfg set to zero slit border worked to unhide. suggest bevel.
in every style add.
dock
slit, hide, show
sample trial using /overlay
slit.borderWidth zero
slit.bevelWidth zero works it shows no borders but there is available with right-click on slit border or bevel for Slit Menu so with border at zero the bevel can be one or two gives a place for right-click get Slit Menu if you like that. The slit bevel inherits color from toolbar. In MX-Comfort the slit border color is specified, but we just set it to zero wide. (my borders get wider when running a dockapp, but it unhides. how about You? )
slit when not specified, "the slit’s appearance is controlled by the toolbar directives instead."

Report KDE Plasma:
First of all, great job, you guys are great!
I hope i can help you with this report. In summary: You're all fantastic and i'm greatfull to have MX!
Kind regards
Olaf
First of all, great job, you guys are great!
- 1. Installation:
After installation with btrfs the system did not start. It stopped in the console and asked me to boot into maintenancemode or boot normally. I am not familiar with maintenance. Normal boot did not work either. Unfortunately, I no longer have the message that was displayed to me. Is also not quite so tragic, have then installed on ext4. It took longer than usual with MX21 (subjective impression).
- 2. user-installed packages:
I had previously installed MX23 alpha 2 and made myself the list "User Installed Packages" there. I then played this back in beta1 and got the following message:libdvdcss2 Simple foundation for reading DVDs - runtime libraries
libtxc-dxtn0 S3 Texture Compression (S3TC) library
libtxc-dxtn0:i386 S3 Texture Compression (S3TC) library
w64codecs win64 binary codecs
- 3. root password:
I did the installation WITHOUT root user. At some point, and I can't trace what happened before, my sudo password was no longer accepted (when I tried to open a directory as root in Dolphin). I was able to generate a password for root with "passwd root". But this suggests that the root was already created, which I did not do. Very strange. For now, I'm fine with it.
- 4. sd-card, usb-stick only readable
If I insert a SD card or a USB stick, I can work with it normally. However, after a few minutes, these directories are read-only and I can no longer save or copy anything to them. I had to eject and remount it again and again.
Also changing in MX-Tweaks (Enable mount...by user without root privileges) did not help.
- 5. no sound anymore
The sound was working. At some point, however, it stopped and I can't say exactly when. The taskbar icon shows a crossed out speaker icon and clicking on it shows me no devices.
The MX sound card selection only offers me HDMI and PCH, no internal sound card.
- 5a.
My Apple Airpods do not connect via Bluetooth, which works in MX21 and other distros.
- 6 WLAN
Connecting to my cell phone via hotspot works (password was saved).
Connecting to my FritzBox and entering the router password in the known place (by clicking on the WLAN icon of the taskbar) another window (polkit) popped up and I had to enter the router password again). After a reboot, I had to enter it again (in the popup window). So it did not save it.
- 7. slow boot logo
The new MX boot logo looks very nice! With a "normal PC" it also builds up quickly. On the Mac here, however, it takes a very long time and "stutters". I've already posted this in the KDE alpha2 feedback thread and it was mentioned there that it could be due to the high resolution of the Macbook. I would like to mention this again here. There may be other high resolution laptop screens that could have this problem. Not all users know how to change the boot logo in MX-Boot options or dare to change something there.
- 8. plasma integration firefox
In the Taskleiszt comes the hint to install/activate the Plasma Integration for the browser. However, this addon is no longer maintained/maintained. This can be disabled after all.
I hope i can help you with this report. In summary: You're all fantastic and i'm greatfull to have MX!
Kind regards
Olaf

The Quick System Info can be found in the application menu, please run it and paste the WHOLE text here. This thread is meant to help the developers so your bug report must be helpful and detailed, with full details of your hardware.
Also, you did not post the whole text of the error message you got. Without the error message, the devs will be guessing as to what the problem actually was.

What requires sse2? You were doing what when you received the message?
I know web browsers all require sse2.

I didn't follow everything you wrote, sorry to say. I just added those two lines to the overlay file, refreshed and now the dock on left center works on autohide. As you mentioned, there is no visible bar.
We will want to investigate slight modifications that might improve it as we go along.
