Re: MX-23 beta 1 feedback thread
I put the xfce .iso on a Ventoy USB. I got as far as the boot menus. I changed the time zone and when I tried to boot I got:
Fatal error
could not find file antiX/linuxfs
It might be a Ventoy problem. Booting the .iso from VirtualBox worked nromally.

Re: MX-23 beta 1 feedback thread
MX-23 Xfce 32-bit.
When attempting to play an MPG video file, VLC opens then crashes. (Works with SMPlayer, works on 64-bit)

Re: MX-23 beta 1 feedback thread
this is due to the way ventoy identifies the mx iso. due to changes in systemd, we had to rename a file that ventoy happens to use to ID MX and antiX. we've sent a patch to the ventoy devs, but they have not incorporated it into a new release yet.

Not my intention, thanks. @m_pav @dolphin_oracle Strawberry should be left out of MX Fluxbox following general OS concept.chrispop99 wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 9:17 am MX-23, FluxBox, 64-bit.

Re: MX-23 beta 1 feedback thread
Here are some initial remarks re MX-Fluxbox beta1
Error messages in ~/.xsession-errors
----------------
Fluxbox is logging a long list of 'Failed to read: session.*' values in ~/.session-errors.
Solution Add these variables to ~/.fluxbox/init as suggested by @siamhie
There is a warning re language locale: "Warning: Failed to open file(fluxbox.cat). For translation, using default messages."
This can be resolved by executing following commands:
Also seeing following warning in ~/.xsession/errors (probably also fluxbox-related):
Tried to google for possible causes/solutions, but didn't find any....
And finally various (harmless?) messages:
- rtkit- and libcamera related errors after pipewire startup
- xfce4-clipman errors
~/.fluxbox/apps
-------------
Suggest to reduce the number of entries to installed applications only. And clean out double/incomplete entries.
Default dock (wmalauncher)
-------------
Default dock is NOT showing up on session start. following errors appear (one by one) in ~/.xsession.errors
These arguments could instead be added to the TTIPS+ items
Also, mxdk script is missing a sed command, something like:
Presumably mx-dockmaker has not been updated yet to set the above?
mxfb-font
-------------
Not yet updated to 230526 version?
As it is now, selecting the gtk-font does not execute the requested change.
mxfb-appfinder
-------------
Some applications show up without icon:
- MX apps: Background/Font/MX-User-Manual/Tint2-Manager
- non MX : Grsync/Py-Loader
Perhaps set fallback-icon option in ~/.config/rofi/themes/appfinder/mxfb-appfinder.rasi:
mx-idesktool
-------------
Needs to be updated to allow (additional?) setting of *.svg icons and width/height
tint2
------------
Launching mxfb-appfinder from default tint2 looks great (though perhaps a bit oversized).
But calling mxfb-appfinder from elsewhere-positioned and/or otherwise-colored/transparent panel should open mxfb-appfinder (or an alternative rofi appfinder) in a neutral position --> centered ??
sort order folders-first
------------
When searching files/folders in e.g texteditors, preferably show folders-first before files :
EDIT: Sorry @Eadwine Rose , here's the obligatory QSI:

Re: MX-23 beta 1 feedback thread
Your installer is still dated, confusing and difficult to use. Why not switch to the user-friendly Calamares installer which is available on other distros including Debian? I have used it many times and it's a pleasure to work with.
Re: MX-23 beta 1 feedback thread
64 bit XFCE
The only quirk I have found so far is that on this laptop if the mouse receiver is not plugged into the third usb slot (from the front), you will be stuck in a reboot loop. With MX 21, only inserting the mouse receiver into the first (of three) usb ports caused this behaviour. Now both the first and second usb ports are affected.
