Something, possibly the kernel, possibly TLP, was lowering power to the pcie bus too aggressively, causing the problems in the prior post as well as sata bus errors & ath10k WiFi AER errors.
Since these Dell Inspiron 5000 series laptops are fairly common it's something to remember when it comes up from other users.
nice troubleshooting.

@siamhie

Thanks for the confirmation about the warnings (that I needn't be concerned)!

You mentioned:
I get the same messages when ever my kernel gets updated.
As I recall, I think the same is for me, and while I was only mildly concerned at the time of upgrades, I now can rest more easily when seeing those messages.

Thanks for that!

I have decided to widen the test on a variety of machines (as many as the IT Director and my HR will let me). I can successfully say the Alpha 2 ISO works flawlessly for what my company needs; the only problem I am facing is on my computer at home (IdeaCentre A540 and laptop Dell Latitude E7450) along with my HR's computer (Dell Optiplex 790) the start up sound instance is now working (referencing my only noticed error previously), but is delayed by anywhere from 30 seconds to a full minute. This isn't a big problem; I just wanted to help and bring this release as equal or even better than 21.3...

@PyrusMasquerade
Thank you for your good intentions report.
I just wanted to help and bring this release as equal or even better than 21.3...
It's a great wish. I'm no code expert, but the dev team will take care of it.

Just for context, I am unable to use the chat function, using Headphone and Microphone, in the browser version for Firefox on MX21.3 (latest kernel). Discord reports that my browser (latest Firefox for MX21.3) is unsupported.

Good news: No problem for MX23 :exclamation:
Headphone is already enabled, and one-click to enable Microphone!

So, for MX23-Alpha2 (Xfce) I don't even have to install Discord (via MXPI) :happy:

Unfortunately, if I open Firefox, and save it in Plank, by right-clicking and choosing to save in dock, I have the Firefox Icon, but when I click on it, it creates another Firefox Icon in Plank, which for some reason is blurry. The other Icons don't do this (create another instance of themselves, blurry or otherwise). Here's a snapshot of what happens:
Plank.png
My Plank setup is not the default. I have removed the default ringed-planet icon for "Browser" and replaced it with the Firefox Icon from the Panel (if memory serves me right). I did that because I like the Orange Fox Firefox Icon.

Any ideas about a fix?

OK, I have a fix, but maybe not so elegant:

1. Go to:

Code: Select all

/home/demo/.local/share/applications/
2. Find a file that says something like:

Code: Select all

userapp-Firefox-MGW631.desktop
3. Open this file in a text-editor (I used Featherpad). You should see this:

Code: Select all

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Version=1.0
Type=Application
NoDisplay=true
Exec=/opt/firefox/firefox-bin %u
Name=Firefox
Comment=Custom definition for Firefox
4. Under "Name=Firefox", add the following line:

Code: Select all

Icon=firefox
Make sure "firefox" is NOT capitalized.

5. Save the changes

6. Go to:

Code: Select all

/home/demo/.config/plank/dock1/launchers/
7. Make a backup of "firefox.dockitem": Open a terminal and type:

Code: Select all

cp firefox.dockitem firefox.dockitem.old
8. Open in a text editor (e.g. featherpad):

Code: Select all

firefox.dockitem
9. Change the link of the "Launcher" line to point to the file you edited in .local/share/applications:

Code: Select all

[PlankDockItemPreferences]
Launcher=file:////home/demo/.local/share/applications/userapp-Firefox-MGW631.desktop
10. The new Firefox Icon should appear in Plank, bright, crisp and clear! Now it is this:
Plank.png
It also shows the little dot underneath, showing that it is open (since I am writing this now on the forum, via Firefox), and, most importantly, there is only 1 Firefox Icon in Plank now!

There may be a more elegant way to do this, but this has worked for me on MX23-Alpha2, and I forgot that I had done all of this already for my MX21 (Xfce & KDE) installs! :bagoverhead:

If anyone can suggest a more elegant, modular, or best-practices-way, please let me know!

:cool:

This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Fluxbox is useless. Without my Fluxbox, I am useless.
