Opera with VPN enabled

#1 Post by MAYBL8 »

Looked around the forum and didn't see anything relating to my question that was recent.

I installed Opera and turned on the VPN feature.
When I first went to the MX forum and attempted to login it told me I was banned because of spam from my ip address.

So figuring that the ip address it was seeing was generated by Opera VPN I closed the browser and re opened it and then I was able to login.

Is the expected behavior that I will experience using the VPN in Opera.

Not a problem just curious.
Thanks

Is the vpn address in Opera fixed or variable? If it is a fixed address that has been tagged, most likely will happen always. If variable it can be a maybe.
I use Private Internet access and had to get a dedicated IP, (mine only) to ensure access to the Forum as the one assigned by PIA at times would lock me out.

I will assume for now that it is variable .
I don't even know how to get what ip address it is using .
Maybe someone here has more experience with it .
I will see how I can find out and do further testing.

Apparently Opera's VPN service is technically a proxy service. I use Nord with no problems because I connect to the same server every time I log in.

Despite claiming to be a VPN, what Opera actually offers is a free proxy; its standalone VPN service was discontinued in early 2018.

I checked your last IP against StopForumSpam which the forum software uses to check IP's and there were 5 hits. You can check that site to see if an assigned IP will be blocked.
