New MX21 Installs problems with mx-datetime

#1 Post by zimbodel »

MX21
For some reason datetime refuses to automatically update. If I manually update it it updates, but the tickbox check just disappears and automatic update is rejected.
I made sure ntp is running.
What could cause this ?

hmm, you are running with systemd perhaps? you time should be updating, but I imagine datetime might have a bug in its checks somewhere.

quick-system-info would be nice.

if the ntpsec or ntp service is running, then auto clock syncing is enabled. and if the hwclock-mx service is enabled, then the clock should be saved to the system hardware at shutdown.

Doesnt seem it is booting the systemD kernel.
The problem still remains the same as in the video.
It just refuses to accept the tickmark.
Today it was off by 5 hours, so it seems to update to something else and eventually overrides my manual updates in
mx-timedate.

$ cat /proc/version
Linux version 5.16.0-5mx-amd64 (stevep@mxlinux.org) (gcc-10 (Debian 10.2.1-6) 10.2.1 20210110, GNU ld (GNU Binutils for Debian) 2.35.2) #1 SMP PREEMPT Debian 5.16.14-1~mx21+1 (2022-03-22)

I will post
quick-system-info , but I first have to remove identifiable data, as quick-system-info doesnt really care about privacy.

Just use our Quick System Info as it's output has already been scrubbed of personal identifiers.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

I had a problem with time on a system once. It turned out to be the little battery on the MB dying. I replaced it and the problem went away.

I haven't been here for ages but I saw this randomly today and thought I would throw this out here, in case it's a similar thing and can save you all time.
