Re: MX-23 alpha2 feedback thread

#101 Post by timkb4cq »

I had some no longer repeatable glitches with alpha2.
Booting from the LiveUSB the first three times, when I selected my network access point and entered the password my mouse stopped working as soon as the wifi connected. The touchpad continued to work. Plugging in another mouse (direct wire!) wouldn't work either. That stopped happening when I setup persistence on the flash drive.
Sometimes my amdgpu was correctly detected, sometimes no driver was installed and I had 1024x768 res. Probably specific to this machine and the install doesn't have the problem.
The installer didn't find my ESP partition (I hadn't selected it earlier - probably should have) and left me unable to boot into anything but a flash drive. No boot media detected errors...
Manually mounting the ESP partition and running mx-boot-repair, first repairing grub configuration file then reinstalling grub was successful.
I'm wondering if it would be useful to have a prompt in the grub installation screen when ESP is greyed out that it can be mounted manually to enable it.

I found if I disable Legacy ROMS in the UEFI then the amdgpu driver will load. Sheesh!

@dolphin_oracle Thanks for the explanation. I won't worry about it then. I really should be using journalctl instead since I boot using systemd by default.

Thank you so much @timkb4cq for doing that. I'll report back with my results.

Those legacy modes cause trouble! Likely why your esp wasn’t pre selected too.

It isn't being maintained anymore. I had to patch it to use AtayanaAppIndicator instead of AppIndicator which isn't in bookworm.
The manual portion of it works fine. The automatic disable touchpad when mouse is plugged in and disable touchpad when typing options do not.
There's obviously been some change in mouse/touchpad handling since bullseye.
I installed it on my Live (Acer Aspire One) system, where I was having trouble with the cursor jumping around when typing, and switched drivers. Now, rather than use the Xfce tool to just turn it off, I can select to "disable while typing" which seems to work pretty well. That's a significant improvement so worth the trouble. Thanks again.

@timkb4cq I'm back with great results. The build worked flawlessly. My GPU now runs at an average of 37.0°C idle (edge) as opposed to the 61.0°C without corectrl.
*note that version >= 0.106 was used as the guide due to Polkit version 122 in Bookworm. (https://gitlab.com/corectrl/corectrl/-/wikis/Setup)
