Remote Access Software

#1 Post by galaxysurfer »

What do you all use for remote access software? FYI Teamviewer just eliminated the free single user account option.
I was using it to help my tech clueless relative. Now I need to find a suitable replacement. Has anyone here tried HoptoDesk? https://www.hoptodesk.com/

No Machine users? https://www.nomachine.com/everybody

Saw this one suggested elsewhere too. RustDesk https://rustdesk.com/

I will also revisit AnyDesk. I couldn't get it to work before due to both network configuration at my end & the other party's end.

It seems hoptodesk is a fork of RustDesk. Other than that, seems not much else is known from the About and ownership.
Mixed of desktops and laptops, I have a Gravis Ultrasound Classic card (unfortunately its ISA-slot based) ... - I must be a dino.
Running on my DesktopPC - MX-23.4 AHS with latest Kernel: 6.12.17-1-liquorix-amd64

I think we are on a similar wave length @razor2021. As much as I am willing to be a beta tester, I am not willing to potentially breech my security all for the name of free etc. I prefer something with a bit more track record at this point.

I use both NoMachine and Anydesk, and both work very well.

No machine is excellent if you are on the same network or have a VPN to the machine. Otherwise, you need to open and forward a port. That is all I use internally and on VPN connections.

Anydesk is no longer free. Their 'free' version is ok as long as you dont have too many remote sessions and then it will start nagging you, delay connection and even not connect after "too much use".

Google Chrome has a remote desktop and my tests were pretty good on it - I just prefer not to have anything to do with google.

And going paid, the best I have found is ScreenConnect - just AWESOME!
