MX kernel on other distros

#1 Post by sagsaw »

Is it possible to install MX Linux 32 bit kernel on other 32-bit distros?

If yes how?

Will I also be able to get updates for the same?

the default mx 32 bit kernel is the debian 32 bit kernel. so if you want to use it on another debian based 32 bit distro, there shouldn't be a problem, as long as you match distribution releases. so a bullseye based distro matched to debian bullseye. you would pull the kernel from debian's repos.

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

i want to use mx kernel primarily because its config_hz
1000hz timer

i dont want to recompile the stock kernel on my distro only for this 1000hz so a shortcut is to use mx kernel

but the problem is if i add mx main repository then my other packages are updated too bit i only want the mx kernel to receive updates from mx repository and all other packages to receive updates from debian repository

how do i achieve that?

Like I said the mx 32 bit kernel is the Debian 32 bit kernel. You don’t need the mx repo

With regards to this and your thread on q4os forum - I may be completely wrong but having looked at the config files for the stock kernels in use on both 64 bit and 32 bit MX I only see CONFIG_HZ=250 there's no evidence of 1000 being used.
Perhaps you could provide a bit more info as to where your figure came from please?

Check this thread where it clearly mentioned by Stevo I think that he set 1000hz for MX Kernel
