Flathpack apps not working anymore?

#1 Post by IAMNewbie »

It seems that any flathpack app refuses to start.

Now I want to run bottles and nothing happens.

If I copy and paste the run command from the start menu to the terminal it throws this error:
╰─ /usr/bin/flatpak run --branch=stable --arch=x86_64 --command=bottles --file-forwarding com.usebottles.bottles @@u %u @@
14:25:16 (ERROR) Unable to load libGLX_nvidia.so.0
14:25:16 (WARNING) Unable to locate libGLX_nvidia
Invalid URI (syntax: bottles:run/<bottle>/<program>)
Why?

I have nvidia card but it is older and could not find drivers for it to work properly. If I install the driver using MX Linux KDE app, it installs a newer version which causes errors and it is better to remove that driver in order to work properly.

I remember I removed a few days ago another flathpack app because not opening. And now this one. And some time ago another app.
First time I installed them they were running well but now refuses to start. I uninstalled them and installed them back but still not working.

According to the specifications for your motherboard, found here:

https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA ... v-20/sp#sp

it has one PCIe 3.0 slot and two PCIe 2.0 slots available. I think that you should look on Ebay or at your local computer parts store for a used PCIe 3.0 Radeon card to replace the existing Nvidia card. Going forward that Nvidia card is going to cause you no end of grief.

HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Did you upgrade a kernel? Might be that you need to go into the flatpak tab, select installed apps, and then upgrade all.

My one flatpak thing (kodi) always quits working when I upgrade the kernel, and upgrading sorts that out.

I didn't upgrade kernel.
I did flatpak update and upgrade all but it found nothing to upgrade as they are already to the newest version.
Any idea, please?

@j2mcgreg I'm not going to buy another motherboard just because it is old. I'm trying to make it to work as it is working on Windows.

All "working on Windows" means in Linux is that the card isn't physically damaged. The problems with Nvidia vis a vis Linux are that Nvidia isn't exactly forthcoming with new drivers and driver information; and when they do begrudgingly produce a driver, it will only be maintained for a set period of time -- a sort of planned obsolescence. You say that your Nvidia card is giving you problems now, it's only going to get worse when MX 23 arrives in the fall.

One last thing: I didn't suggest that you buy a new motherboard, but I did suggest that you source out a discreet Radeon card to put on to your motherboard.
