No soundcard found on new laptop
Re: No soundcard found on new laptop
As you have a pressing need for a working sound card, I suggest that you search your local market or Amazon for one of these:
https://www.canadacomputers.com/product ... _id=121319
which are known to work with Linux.

Re: No soundcard found on new laptop
Found a real old bluetooth headset I once bought as I was driving a lot.
After pairing it, it seem to work rather fine. Sound plays - metal blasting in my ear right now.
And zoom picked up my voice right away as I was in the settings.
Why does bluetooth speaker and recording work, but not the internal speakers and mic of the laptop?
May this help in figuring out whats the issue?

Re: No soundcard found on new laptop
I got some time over the next days, and wanted to try some things I found on other forums. Though most of them are for totally other distros, I want to make sure I don't f** something up.
Is making a Timeshift backup enough tob keep me save, or should I make an iso out of all my harddrive?
Cheers and have a pleasant and relaxed time

Re: No soundcard found on new laptop
https://github.com/thesofproject/sof-bi ... ain/v2.4.x
If I see this correct, a new version was released not to long ago.
How can I tell if it is actually the correct one to use on this laptop?
Installing it would be the same command (just new link) as in a previous post by Huckleberry, right?
So far, using Bluetooth earbuds works, and using them as microphone during zoom sessions and meetings works good, but wearing them 10+ hours isn't that great, hence having the speakers and mic of the laptop working would be great

Re: No soundcard found on new laptop
You may need to blacklist snd_soc_skl and snd_sof_pci_intel_apl. You can add to or create a blacklist.conf in /etc/modprobe.d containing:
reboot.
I had a similar issue on older kernel recently and after creating a conf file in /etc/modprobe.d it still failed on sound until blacklisting what the kernel wanted to load.
Code: Select all
blacklist snd_soc_skl
blacklist snd_sof_pci_intel_apl

Re: No soundcard found on new laptop
Hi roundup,
thank you very much for the reply.
I'll try this out as soon as possible.
Should I have sound right after the reboot, or do I have to select / change something first?
What about this new SOF driver update I mentioned earlier. Should I install that first or wait and see what the blacklisting achieves?
thank you very much for the reply.

created the file, added the 2 lines, rebooted and nothing.roundup976 wrote: Sun Feb 12, 2023 2:51 pm You may need to blacklist snd_soc_skl and snd_sof_pci_intel_apl. You can add to or create a blacklist.conf in /etc/modprobe.d containing:

Soundcardselect had one HDA Intel PCH selected
Alsamixer gives me standart and this HDA to select from. Standart gives me control over speaker volume and capture volume.
the HDA selection only shows 4 s/pdif that cant be changed or altered.
All in all, the laptop is still as silent as it was before.

Re: No soundcard found on new laptop
@argonaut459
have a look at post #20 in this thread of mine where I discuss the problems I was having with the 6.0 and 6.1 kernels and audio.
https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php ... 7&start=10
My solution was to use MXPI to install the Debian 5.10 kernel. In my case, sound is working, not perfectly, but it is working. This, I think, is a temporary fix, as the bugs in the 6 series kernels will get worked out in due course.

Re: No soundcard found on new laptop
Maybe it was just me being stupid
New laptop = newest version needed, without realizing that the laptop is of course rather mundane "old" tech
So just download other kernel from mxpi and choose it in grub?
Will try in the next days
