While not accurate it has to mean something about a distro staying in the public eye. I remember when Mint was at the top for ages, before that Ubuntu. Debian in general has seen a resurgence in popularity and that has likely aided MX. Google has Debian as default on Chromebooks via Crostini. Ubuntu seems to regularly make controversial changes while Debian remains a constantly solid distro.

From the Distrowatch explanation of the listing:
They simply show the number of times a distribution page on DistroWatch was accessed each day, nothing more.
So in my view it is somewhat self-perpetuating. People seeing MX as number 1 will naturally go to the MX Distrowatch page, to see what it is all about, which of course increases the page hits. It is no indication of whether they like what the see, being just a counter.

DistroWatch Project Ranking - Rankings of projects based on visitor ratings. MX Linux is #21 with an 8.58 rating out of 10. IMHO this is what should be on the DistroWatch front page!

Page hits are so 90's web nerdish. When I managed some non-profit websites it wasn't long into the new millennium (2005?) that I abolished hit counters.

Yeah, but the first result is AcademiX, which I'm sure is a fine distro, but I've literally never heard of it until now.

It depends on the table you look at. There's four to choose from.

Code: Select all

Average rating >100 votes
#1 AcademiX 9.43 (100 reviews)
#22 MX Linux 8.58 (1543 reviews)

Average rating >10 votes
#1 LFS 9.83 (12 reviews)
#68 MX Linux 8.58 (1534 reviews)

Number of votes
#1 MX Linux (1534 reviews)

Average rating
#1 ZevenOS 10.0 (1 review)
#166 MX Linux 8.58 (1534 reviews)
This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Fluxbox is useless. Without my Fluxbox, I am useless.

Hi,

In looking at the DW comments from this past week and discussion of silly concepts like 'best distro of the year" etc... I will say MX is mentioned pretty often in passing as what people are actually using and enjoying as their daily OS in a comments section that isn't responding to an actual MX release that week... It's places like this I think we can kind of extrapolate where public opinion is a bit more accurately away from both Hype city and Troll town..

https://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issu ... 7#comments

Candid mentions like this tell me the number 1 ranking is probably more connected with reality than the naysayers may indicate.. Anyway it makes me very glad to MX getting the kind of quiet real-world praise that it and it's phenomenal developers deserve on a daily basis. Well done!
