You can (actually: do , 5.18 and 5.19 reached EOL) install the most recent (6.0) kernel :

IIRC the current kernel and settings will be stored, and I can just select the new 6.0 kernel from the grub menu, right?
Thank you very much in advance

Yes: 6.0 will become the default and older ones will get under "Advanced Options" in Grub.

Download took some time, building kernel seemed to work flawless (at least didn't read any error message)

still says - no soundcard found.

It's a long-time (sof) issue , since 2017..

https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=369454

https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/al ... u-desktop/

https://github.com/thesofproject/linux/issues/3460#issuecomment-1062138713 wrote:
@plbossart In which kernel release can we expect these fixes?

5.18 at best, I just sent the patches to the maintainers.

P.S. You'll see your chip-ID: 8086:3198 there ...

... But maybe with 6.1 according to here:

https://github.com/thesofproject/linux/ ... 1293545772

Till then, nothing to lose to install the latest (only 14 days old) 2.3 :

Code: Select all

git clone https://github.com/thesofproject/sof-bin ; cd sof-bin/ ; sudo ./install.sh v2.3.x/v2.3
Reboot.

... If still not, just apply the conf file again:

Code: Select all

echo "options snd-intel-dspcfg dsp_driver=1" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf
Reboot.

Then: Menu => Alsamixer : press F6 : select "0 ... Intel" then press F5 (all) then take a screenshot and post. (or just tell what it writes on top-left corner for Card: ... ) .. (Or if there are bars (more than 1-2 only) play with them, (you can unmute/mute with M from keyboard)

Being a bit confused by what you posted, but will try this git clone thing.

Googled a bit but most of the time I have no clue what the folks are talking about.
Would this even be relevant?

looking at the github page, and opening the 2.3 folder, there is nothing in there. 2.2 has some files in it, but 2.3 just says "empty file"

I remember that heikomat but it was for other devices : bytcht ...

In the meantime, the links I gave were just to give an idea (just to read) about the issue (it's everywhere and since a long time, not MX-specific).. The only one to apply is the git clone ... (in that post)

Ok.. it looks so, maybe for it's too new. You can apply the 2.2 but you already tried previously with the deb file...

Anyway, since you already have the directory, just this will do it :

Code: Select all

cd sof-bin/ ; sudo ./install.sh v2.2.x/v2.2
