Sucess installing WiFi 6 intel 200 ax card?

#1 Post by PIP436 »

Hi, I recently upgraded my WiFi network to fiber with a speed of 300 mbps (which I receive with a wired connection and on a relatively new laptop with windows). But on my PC HP290 G4 Microtower PC on WiFi I only get 40 mbps. The fiber router wall socket is only 6 meters away from the PC, but unfortunately on the opposite wall, so I need to use WiFi. As this PC is my main computer, I'm trying to solve the problem. The current network card is a Realtek RTL8821ce 802.11 ac. The fiber provider here in Israel now tells me it requires WiFi6 AX (NOT ac) to get full speed and suggested installing a new AX PCIe adapter card. An internet search came up with the suggestion that the Intel chipset WiFi 6 AX200 works with up-to-date Linux. Wondering if anyone has actually had success installing an AX card such as that using MX Linux 21? Which one, specifically? Did it require require installation of special drivers? Was the process complicated? Thanks for any help on this.

Yes, there are many users of that.

You can also try everything on live session. In addition, there are most recent kernels (5.19 at the moment, 6.x soon) in "MX Package Installer".

... Or: You can directly try with/install MX "AHS" version (that has 5.18 by default).

(It should work with all ootb.)

In the worst case, you can do this:

Thanks for the response Huck. Any particular product with this chip (a link would be great) that is known to work? Either an internal card or USB adapter? I hate to get stuck with something I can't figure out, so install and it simply works would be amazing!

Maybe @j2mcgreg helps about that (and actual users of AX200 ) :)

And this guy just needed to install a 5.1+ kernel, that's it:

Though this was MX19 (but with 5.6 kernel) :

I use this card. Ubit WiFi Card, Tri-Band 5400Mbps WiFi 6E 6GHz PCIe WiFi Card, BT 5.2

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08NVR8M8X (I believe I had to have the minimum of a 5.11 kernel for it to work)

Code: Select all

inxi -n
Network: Device-1: Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX210/AX211/AX411 160MHz driver: iwlwifi
IF: wlan0 state: up mac: f8:b5:4d:6f:1a:d0
This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Fluxbox is useless. Without my Fluxbox, I am useless.

Thanks SlamoleI I see that product is no longer available on Amazon. Any criteria how to choose a card that will work for me? Again, it's a PC HP290 G4 Microtower PC I-5. I appreciate any guidance.

Having an Intel instead of a Realtek 88XX internal card was a major factor in choosing a Dell G5-5515 laptop and using the AHS version:

Code: Select all

Device-2: Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 vendor: Rivet Networks Killer driver: iwlwifi v: kernel
           port: 2000 bus-ID: 04:00.0 chip-ID: 8086:2723

I upgraded to an Intel AX210 chip in my Framework laptop a month ago and it's been flawless and fast. However, I'm using MX KDE with the 5.19 kernel, so I can't speak to how well the latest 5.10 kernel would handle it since that's the minimum version for the 210 chip. The AX200 has been compatible since kernel 5.2, so you should be more than fine with that.
