No soundcard found on new laptop

#1 Post by argonaut459 »

Good evening,
im running a live version of 21 ahs, everything works fine and dandy but I realized I dont have sound at all.
if I run mx soundcard, it says "no soundcard found"
Well thats not true, as Win 10 S - has sound and its working fine enough for zoom meetings in university.

How do I enable that I have sound?
So far I updated all that is possble (I think)
Upgraded all that is possibel (I think)

Searching online, I see several reports of trouble on linux with the Intel Celeron/Pentium Silver Processor High Definition Audio. It looks like a sof-firmware problem.
You may need to go into MX Package Installer, the MX Test Repo tab and install firmware-sof-signed.

The OP may have to make a persistent Live USB to reboot with the newer sof firmware (2.1.1).

But there's also a newer 2.2.2 upstream in Debian that I will backport.

Thank you for the fast replies.
Sadly I have no clue how to do that.

Links to these topics very much welcome.

First the persistent live sounds like a good idea. I assume it is like I can load into the updated live saved on the USB stick whenever I plug it in and boot from it. Right?

I'll see if I find these files in the test repo.
If I don't, how do I install the 2 options you showed me?

Linux noob trying my best to make it right :)

Was trying to create a persistance file with the Remaster tool.
When clicking on the usb stick (that currently has the ventoy iso's of which I run this liveUSB) it gives me an error.
See Screenshots.

In Thunar, i can't check how much space I still got on the Ventoy USB nothing happens - I think I at the very first moment got a message that said "can't mount"

Do I need an empty USB to create these persistance USB?
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

There are so many files, which one do I need?
Should I try this one first, or the one in the Test Repo?

As nothing of he persist options were working, I installed MX normally alongside Win10 S
worked fine (except sound)
than I realized I didn't have wifi for 3 hours. Strangely Win10 didn't connect either.

So right after the install finished I installed the Test Repo version of the Sound driver, rebooted.
Nothing, still the same no soundcard available.
