The lone developer of anti-cookie-warning browser add-on "I Don't Care About Cookies" has sold it to Avast, resulting in both concern – and new forks.

Didn't even know there was such an extension. I've been cussing the EU ever since that crap started. I'd go so far as to say I want to see the EU completely dissolved based on that one thing.

Worse yet, Brave browser is baiting everyone into using it by completely negating the need for cookie consent whatsoever. As if that's an improvement. This is like twisting your arm and then pretending if they let go they did you a favor. The funniest part is the guy doing the report acts like he's confused by Brave's move. Thanks for the news on "I don't care...".

I use Brave. My pattern is each time I close a tab I go to one of my Startup Page tabs, which is always open on the far left -> Settings > Privacy & Security > Clear Browsing Data > Advanced , where I have the severe settings that I want to use saved. I click on the Clear Browsing Data button every time I close a tab - I have it take out everything. I don't mind clicking a few times each time I close a tab, & it saves me from having to run another add-on (it seems to be common knowledge these days that they are all potential invaders of our privacy).

The above in connection with uMatrix & some anti fingerprinting add-ons (those 5 are all I use) do it for me. I'm always on a good paid for VPN & I'm fairly conservative when it comes to the sites I visit.

I don't have a hard line opinion about what browser (or any other software, distro, hardware...) other people should use, or how they should use it. We try to use what suits our needs/desires as best we can, & carry on. Some of us value privacy more than others.

[edit:] I guess it is also common knowledge these days that the free versions of commercial antivirus/security packages are self confessed trackers of everything you do on the net (at least). Which would be why colin_b started this thread to begin with. :)

Since Firefox 104, TCP (Total Cookie Protection) has been enabled by default for all users, so there is no need for "I don`t care about cookies"? -> https://www.mozilla.org/de/firefox/103.0/whatsnew/

In my ESR version I use IDCAC filterlist for UblockOrigin.

I switched to "I Still Don't Care About Cookies". Firefox has certs I don't trust and never saw before the latest updates. "Certainly" being one to mention. Plus if you don't edit about:config you will be tracked. I installed it for when nothing else works and I must 'make it happen'. Other than that I will still never use chrome in any form or any web3 (bitcoin) nonsense browser as a daily driver. The desire is to steer everyone to chrome using web3/bitcoin protocols all under a 'global' certification process. NoScript is now installed whenever possible to mitigate the BS. This site for example has one for MX and one for google (translate or something i think). MX is trusted, google is not.
