Re: screensaver settings
Xfce's screensaver's been known to cause problems on earlier versions. Can't remember exactly but it was probably Felix or Huck who advised uninstalling it in some cases.
I'd second the suggestion to try XScreensaver. Yes it does look a big dated. As Jamie, the one behind it, remarked: "XScreensaver was created back when dinosaurs roamed the earth."
But it does the job and I've found its screenlocking to be reliable.

Re: screensaver settings
In reality I can live without a screensaver, just a blank screen will do, I have installed xscreensaver just in case, nice to have options.
This issues was there from first install BTW, I did a clean install of MX21.2 Xfce and the first few time rebooting after the install the wifi did not auto-connect, the settings already mentioned were set. I rebooted again, and still the same. So, I thought no big deal, it will get fixed at some point, so used the laptop, some updates came in,I applied those updates and it seem to fix it, wifi auto-connected again.
But then it stopped working again, the only thing I have done with this clean install (pretty much bone stock) is to play with the power and screen settings, so wondering if this is related.
It has reliably stopped auto-connecting after rebooting now.
I ran the first of the above code block, rebooted twice and it didn't fix the issue, I then ran the second code block and initially it seemed to have fixed it, I rebooted with that config and it and the wifi auto-connected, but on the second reboot it back to not auto-connecting, it's like something might be getting over-written after the reboot?
I've just done 4 reboots back-to-back, twice it came up with the wifi connected, and twice it did not.
One thing, it's super quick to connect to the wifi, quickest I ever seen on any system ever, like almost instant.

So nice to hear that :)fishface wrote: Sun Sep 04, 2022 10:24 am...One thing, it's super quick to connect to the wifi, quickest I ever seen on any system ever, like almost instant...
Nope. These create config files for you at once and they stay there. You can see the contents:fishface wrote: Sun Sep 04, 2022 10:24 am... something might be getting over-written after the reboot?..
Code: Select all
cat /etc/pm/config.d/config
Code: Select all
cat /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/disable-random-mac.conf
... In your Router / Modem Settings:
- Change wireless mode to b/g or g only (from b/g/n or "mixed" etc.) (Since some devices have problems with 802.11 "n" mode )
- Change security to WPA2 only (from wpa/wpa2)
- Change channel from automatic to something fixed; either channel 1 or 11
- You can also select 2.4 GHz only (rather than mixed 2.4 and 5 GHz) if there's such an option..
- You can also change "channel width" to 20 Mhz (from "auto" or "20/40" etc.)
You can also:
Code: Select all
echo "options iwlwifi bt_coex_active=0 swcrypto=1 11n_disable=1" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf

XScreensaver can do that too.

Re: screensaver settings
I have 3 Asus routers configured as a mesh network using wired ethernet for the backhaul to additional nodes.
Wireless mode is auto, WPA2 is set, for both 2.4GHz and 5Ghz, channel width is 20MHz for 2.4G and 20/40/80MHz for 5G, 160MHz is disable for 5GHz, DFS channel separation is disable as well as I live near an airport.
I have a busy home network, approx, 40 - 50 devices, IP cameras, kids with multiple streaming devices, ESXi servers, unRAID etc.
I have only connected this laptop to the 5GHz network, never had this is with 19.4 and KDE.

Re: screensaver settings
You can first try the echo command , if still not: can install the 5.10 (that was the default with 19.4 KDE) kernel (and 5.18 AHS at least to try, as it's the most recent one other than the 5.19 in other tabs) from MXPI - Popular Apps tab and try after booting with them (the 5.10 will be under "Advanced Options" in Grub after installation).
Re: screensaver settings
Ok, will do.
I was using the ahs version of 19.4/KDE, so I will try the 5.10 kernel.
I have discovered that if I close the lid on the laptop, say for 5 secs, when I re-open the lid ( it's set to suspend on lid close) the wifi is then disconnected, does this evyer time. Also the screen doesn't lock, and it hasn't suspended, maybe 5s is too quick for the suspend to kick-in, but I can see the displayed has turned off.
